888poker $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event

The latest instalment of the $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event at 888poker saw a 1,035-strong crowd ensure the guarantee was surpassed. When the dust had settled on yet another exciting final table, it was Chile's "Billy_Slater" who had all 15,525,000 chips in front of them. Their reward? $13,449 when bounty payments are included.

Day 1 saw the four-figure crowd whittled to a more manageable eight-handed final table. All the biggest bounties had already been claimed, including the $10,000 jackpot bounty that Argentina's "BillAckman" collected before busting in 27th place.

The final table was set when Romania's "hsasa1984" crashed out in ninth place. "Billy_Slater" was the chip leader with 135 big blinds, while the United Kingdom's "Rackoff" brought up the rear with an 11 big blind stack. Bang in the middle of those two extremes was the 888poker ambassador Aaron "abarone68" Barone, who started the final table fourth in chips with an arsenal of 49 big blinds.

There was a strange dynamic at the final table because both "gaboor" and "TheHueyLewis" were suffering connection problems and were sat out. They each had large stacks, so they were not going to be blinded out any time soon, but their absence certainly altered how the action progressed.

The first elimination was confirmed ten minutes into the action. "Rackoff" jammed for 7.3 big blinds from middle position with ace-ten of diamonds, only for Barone to wake up with pocket queens in the big blind. Barone called, flopped a set, turned a boat, and sent "Rackoff" to the rail.

Barone was the next to bust despite winning that pot. He was left with a little over 10 big blinds after backing into trip sevens when "olegaberdeen" had flopped a straight with ten-nine of hearts. Soon after, Barone raised with pocket queens, leaving a solitary big blind behind. "olegaberdeen" called with jack-six of hearts, and the action folded to "forzaital14" in the small blind. They raised all-in for 15.6 big blinds with pocket kings, and both Barone and "olegaberdeen" called. An ace-high board left the pocket kings as the best hand, and Barone bowed out.

Sixth place went to "olegaberdeen" despite them being second in chips at the start of six-handed play. They were playing a very loose-aggressive strategy that ultimately led to their downfall. After splashing around in several pots, "olegaberdeen" was left with fewer than seven big blinds. That shot stack went into the middle with pocket sixes, which lost to the ace-seven of diamonds in the hand of "forzaital14" courtesy of an ace on the flop and a seven on the turn.

Remember the strange dynamic we mentioned earlier? Its effects were amplified when play was five-handed, as two players remained disconnected. Despite that, those players who were sat out managed to ladder to third place and a runner-up finish!

First, "forzaital14" crashed by the wayside after an all-timed move on their part. "Con88" raised with pocket queens before quickly calling the 24 big blind shove from "forzaital14," which they made with only king-nine. The queens held, and the final table was down to only four players.

"gaboor" finally managed to connect to the table, although they only had seven big blinds to play with, 70 less than what they sat down with. "gaboor" managed to triple up to give themselves some breathing room, then "TheHueyLewis" also reconnected, albeit with 16 big blinds at their disposal.

Both of the short-stacked players laddered a payout place when "Con88" was eliminated. "Con88" min-raised on the button with queen-jack, and "gaboor" flat-called in the small blind with pocket aces. The flop fell four-ten-queen, "gaboor" checked, "Con88" led for around one-third pot, and "gaboor" check-raised. "Con88" then jammed all-in for 22 big blinds and was snapped off. No help arrived on the turn or river, and "gaboor" was suddenly sat with a 55 big blind stack despite being sat out for more than an hour.

The $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event progressed to the heads-up stage when "TheHueyLewis" came unstuck in cruel circumstances. "TheHueyLewis" limped from the small blind with queen-nine of hearts, and "Billy_slater" checked their option with the lowly eight-three. "Billy_Slater called a bet on the deuce-nine-four flop, leading to a five on the turn. "TheHueyLewis" fired again on the turn, only for "Billy_Slater" to rip it in. "TheHueyLewis" called off the 11.2 big blinds they had behind and busted when a six on the river completed their opponent's straight.

"Billy_Slater" took a 74.6 big blind to 54.8 big blind lead over "gaboor" into the heads-up stage, and it took the best part of another hour for a champion to be crowned. The final hand saw "Billy_Slater" min-raise with pocket tens before calling the 22.4 big blind shove from "gaboor," made with pocket threes. There was no two-outer for the at-risk player, and "Billy_Slater" got their hands on the victory and the $13,449 that came with it.
