Kristen Foxen Folds Kings Preflop on Triton Main Event Final Table
Kristen Foxen made one of the wildest folds you’ll see on a final table, laying down pocket kings preflop during the closing stages of the Triton Poker Jeju $100K Main Event.
Foxen — the most successful woman in tournament poker — found herself in a brutal ICM spot with the second best starting hand in poker. She ultimately released pocket kings after a flurry of preflop action, but whether the fold was genius or disaster will be debated for a long time.
Kings Go Into the Muck
The Triton Main Event was down to its final nine players from a field of 178 entries when the hand played out. Blinds were 75,000/150,000 with a 150,000 big blind ante, and the pay jumps were enormous, with ninth place worth $385,000 and nearly $3.8 million awaiting the winner.
Felipe Ketzer kicked things off by moving all in for 1,175,000 from under the gun holding Q♠J♠.
Elton Tsang, next to act, flat-called with 10♦10♥ from a stack of 4,200,000. Action folded to Philip Sternheimer, who woke up with J♣J♦ and reshoved for 3,775,000.
That left Foxen, who was the second shortest stack, in the cutoff staring down at K♣K♠ with 2,900,000 behind and facing quite the ICM decision.
After several long moments of consideration, Foxen did the unthinkable and folded pocket kings.
Tsang also released his hand, leaving Ketzer and Sternheimer to table their cards.
Foxen could only watch as the board ran out, and to add insult to injury, a king hit the turn. Had she called and won the pot, she would have scooped roughly 9,400,000 chips and vaulted into second place in the chip counts, trailing only start-of-day leader Ben Tollerene.
Instead, the disciplined fold will go down as one of the most fascinating hands of the tournament.
It was an incredibly awkward spot and it will likely be discussed alongside Foxen’s headline-making bust out hand from the 2024 WSOP Main Event.
Despite the setback, Foxen still secured a career-best score of $1,449,000 after finishing fourth and was voted as Triton's player of the day by viewers.
