Did Andrew Robl Make the ‘Greatest Fold’ in TV Cash Game Poker History?
One of the most brilliant folds in livestreamed high-stakes cash game history unfolded Friday night during the fourth and final High Stakes Poker session.
In a lineup stacked with entertaining players, including Andrew Robl, Justin Gavri, and Sam Kiki, what started as a standard raised pot quickly turned into a play that left commentators and fans in disbelief, but impressed.
Greatest Fold in Cash Game History?
Playing $500/$1,000 with a $2,000 straddle on, Justin Gavri opened to $5,000 holding K♥9♥. Sam “Senor Tilt” Kiki called from the small blind with Q♣J♠, and Andrew Robl defended the big blind with Q♥7♥.
No one paired up, but all three players picked up draws on the 10♣2♥A♥ flop. Kiki, who flopped a Broadway straight draw, checked, as did Robl, who picked up the second-nut flush draw.
Gavri, the original raiser, had flopped the nut flush draw and fired a continuation bet of $8,000. Kiki called, but Robl check-raised to $35,000 with his draw. Gavri called the raise, while Kiki reluctantly folded.
Heads-up to the turn, the 9♠ paired Gavri. After Robl checked, Gavri opted to check back and take a river.
The river brought the 6♥, completing both players’ flushes. Robl made a queen-high flush, but Gavri improved to the stone-cold nuts with a king-high flush.
First to act, Robl bet for value, overbetting the $96,000 pot to $125,000. Gavri took some time before moving all-in for $290,000.
To the shock of announcer Brent Hanks, Robl didn’t snap-call. Instead, he laughed, as the dealer counted Gavri's stack. “Look, Robl hasn’t called yet—what?”
Recent Poker Hall of Fame inductee Nick Schulman, also in the booth, responded, “Yeah, he’s been here before. He kind of knows… he kind of knows.” Hanks fired back, “It’s number one versus number two!”
Schulman continued to credit Robl’s awareness, noting that Robl knows he might actually be beat, though he still expected a call. “I know… but it’s just one of those things.” As Robl continued to tank, Schulman added, “Look how good Robl is… he’s calling, though, guys.”
However, Robl tanked for over three minutes. He even stood up, reconfirmed the remaining amount—$165,000—and, with a huge grin, made an incredible fold, correctly mucking the second nuts.
Schulman was stunned, immediately proclaiming the play as all-time greatness:
“OH MY GOD! That’s the best fold I’ve ever seen in my life. That’s the best fold of all time. I don’t give a f**k what anyone has to say—that’s the greatest fold of all time in a cash game. That’s unprecedented.”
Gavri dragged the pot, shaking his head despite winning over $180,000, fully aware that Robl had just made one of the greatest folds ever seen in a live high-stakes cash game.
