High Roller Wins $700k Cooler with Quads and Then Gets Bluffed with Aces
Eric Wasserson won a $700,000 cooler during Thursday's High Stakes Poker livestream, before giving a chunk of it back with pocket aces.
It could have been a banner day for "Wass," who has become a regular in the biggest televised cash games the past year. Had he made the call with those aces, he would have won a second pot for nearly the same value as the cooler he shipped earlier in the show.
Tale of Two Hands
The first monster pot, with the blinds at $500/$1,000 and a $4,000 straddle on, began with Shawn Madden calling with A♦Q♠, followed by Darin Feinstein doing the same with A♠4♥. Alan Keating then called with J♠10♥, and Wasserson, in the big blind, followed along with 2♠2♥.
Andrew Robl, with K♣J♣ in the straddle, called to see a five-way flop of 2♣2♦4♣. Wasserson, who flopped quads, checked, before Robl bet $6,000 with a flush draw. Madden folded ace-high, but Feinstein called with top pair. Keating, with nothing whatsoever, decided to make a play and raise to $35,000. Wasserson, no reason to scare anyone away, just called, as did Feinstein.
The turn was the 4♦, creating quite the cooler, but action checked around to the 6♥ river. Wasserson decided to check quads one last time, and Feinstein, who turned a full house, fired out a bet of $110,000. Keating quickly folded, and Wasserson then snap-jammed all in for $286,000 effective. There was no way for Feinstein to fold, so he called right away only to find out the bad news that he'd lost a $703,500 pot.
The good news for Wasserson was that he'd won the biggest hand to that point during the third of four High Stakes Poker livestream sessions on PokerGO. The bad news for him was he would give a bunch of it back later in the stream.
Wass picked up A♥A♣ and raised to $3,000. Justin Gavri, who doesn't traditionally run well on High Stakes Poker, called with J♠10♥. Keating, the small blind, also entered the pot with 10♣4♣.
The flop came out Q♠4♠K♣, and Keating checked bottom pair. Wasserson, with the over pair, bet $5,000 and received calls from both players. Action picked up following the 8♥ turn that didn't improve any hand.
Keating checked, which was followed by Wass wagering $20,000. Gavri continued with an open-ended straight draw. But Keating, out of position, went for a check-raise to $100,000. Both players called before the 7♣ landed on the river, again no help to anyone.
Two players checked to Gavri, who ripped out a bet of $175,000 into a pot of $326,000. Keating thought about it for a moment before folding his small pair. That put Wasserson in a tough spot with pocket aces, facing a sizable wager against a player High Stakes Poker commentator Nick Schulman said isn't prone to getting out of line.
Wasserson tanked for a few minutes before folding the best hand. Had he made the call, he would have won a pot close to $700,000 for the second time on the night. Instead, he lost a $500,000 pot, one-third of which came from his stack.
Wasserson losing with pocket aces could be some karma for his slowroll with aces against Benny Glaser deep in the $25,000 World Series of Poker Paradise (WSOPP) Super Main Event in December.
High Stakes Poker will air one final livestream on Friday evening. Actor and comedian Kevin Hart will join the game.
