Overlays Galore: Over $200,000 in Added Value So Far
With a bold $5 million in total guarantees across 90 tournaments, PokerStars set an ambitious bar for its first major festival on the integrated FanDuel platform. As the series gets underway, that ambition has translated into significant "added value" for the community, with over $200,000 in overlays recorded during the first two days of action.
The "Ignite" schedule features some of the most substantial guarantees seen in the regulated US market to date. While player turnout has been healthy, the operator's high benchmarks have led several events to fall just short of their targets, requiring PokerStars to supplement the prize pools.
According to date from PokerFuse, key tournaments that fell short included:
- The $100 Sunday Dynasty: This flagship event featured a $200,000 guarantee. With 1,485 entries, the prize pool saw a $63,600 boost from the operator.
- The $250 Blast Off: The series opener carried a $125,000 guarantee and ended with an overlay of over $50,000.
- The $20 Sunday Shield: Even at the lower stakes, players found extra value as the event fell nearly $20,000 short of its $50,000 guarantee despite a strong field of 1,676 entries.
In total, 11 of the first 13 events provided value to participants, making the series' start a high-ROI period for those jumping into the action early.
A New Chapter for US Online Poker
The Ignite Series represents a major milestone for the PokerStars and FanDuel partnership, and there's still plenty of time for the series to find its feet, with 77 tournaments still on the schedule through May 4. Players can still look forward to a variety of formats, including Progressive Knockouts (PKOs) and Mystery Bounties, with buy-ins starting as low as $5.
The festival will culminate in the $300 Main Event, which boasts a massive $500,000 guarantee. For those looking to qualify for less, satellites are running around the clock starting at just $2.50.
