David Zhao Eliminated in 5th Place (NZD$28,200)

David Zhao - 5th Place
David Zhao - 5th Place

It took around two and a half hours to lose our next player, but it had to happen eventually and unfortunately for David Zhao, he is the player to go home in fifth place.

Shortly after Zhao managed to double up, he got all his chips in holding {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} against Jordan Westmorland's {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. By the time the board had run out {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}, Westmorland stayed in front, improved his hand to a flush and eliminated Zhao.

For that effort Zhao goes home with NZD$28,200 and we are down to four-handed play.

Zhao Doubles

Jordan Westmorland was on the button when he raised it up to 32,000. David Zhao then shoved for 112,000 from the big blind. The action was then back on Westmorland.

"How much more?" asked Westmorland.

"Not much," replied Zhao.

Westmorland tumbled out the call and was in bad shape holding {k-Diamonds}{7-Spades} against Zhao's {k-Clubs}{8-Spades}. The {2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades} board was no good for Westmorland, sending Zhao the much-needed double up.

Allan On the Up Again

David Allan had been waiting patiently to strike all afternoon, so with a few more chips in hand, he decided to put the pressure on Ken Demlakian. Allan’s timing was off, but the result was pretty good nonetheless.

Allan opened to 32,000 from the button, before Demlakian three-bet to 76,000 from the big blind. Allan responded by moving all in for 370,000 with Demlakian making a quick call.

Demlakian: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Allan: {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Allan had his tournament life on the line, but the board ran out {8-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} to see Allan spike his king to double through. Allan is now back in contention as Demlakian takes a dent to his empire.

Clutch Double for Allan

Folded to Ken Demlakian in the cutoff, he limped. David Zhao did the same on the button and Ricky Kroesen got out of the way in the big blind. The action was now on David Allan in the big blind and he opted to shove all in for around 175,000. Demlakian quickly folded, while Zhao made the call.

Zhao: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Allan: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

Allan was in good shape and it stayed that was as the dealer spread out a {k-Clubs}{9-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts} board. With that, Allan is back and healthy, while Zhao is struggling as the short stack.

Ken Keeps Killing It

Folded to Ken Demlakian on the button, he raised it up to 32,000. David Zhao then three-bet to 72,000 from the small blind and Demlakian called.

On the {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop, Zhao bet 76,000 and Demlakian called. The {7-Clubs} turn would see Zhao check and Demlakian shove his massive stack all in. Zhao frustratingly folded and Demlakian raked in even more chips.

Demlakian the Million Dollar Man

Ken Demlakian opened with a raise to 25,000 from the button with both blinds making the call to see a flop of {q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Action checked around and the {8-Hearts} was the free card on the turn. David Zhao checked to Ricky Kroesen who took a stab with a bet of 41,000. Both Demlakian and Zhao called as the river delivered the {5-Spades}.

Zhao and Kroesen quickly tapped the table to Demlakian who bet a hefty 120,000. Zhao wasted no time in calling as Kroesen sighed and folded.
Demlakian opened {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a straight which was good to take it down as Zhao mucked. Demlakian is now the first player above the one million chip mark as everything seems to be going his way.
