The Sydney leg of the ANZPT has been one of the most popular stops on the whole tour since its inception. That is surely set to continue this week as another big field is being created. We are expecting to see the 2012 ANZPT Sydney event reach the heights of 2009. Below is a table of the past three winners.
Michael Kanaan was the champion of last year's ANZPT Sydney Main Event and if early indications of Day 1a are anything to go by, he'll be giving it another fair crack this year.
It looks like there could be a few more at the tables, but the tournament clock is showing that there are currently 214 players partaking in Day 1a of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event.
We didn't get to see the hand of his demise, but Ian Parnell was kind enough to recall the details of Andrew Hinrichsen's bust-out hand which apparently came on the last hand before the break.
Apparently all the chips went in on a flop showing with Hinrichsen up against one opponent. Hinrichsen tabled , running into the of his opponent. With no king on the turn or river, Hinrichsen was out.
As we passed Liam O'Rourke's table there was a board showing and O'Rourke was in a hand with one opponent. At this point there was over 5,000 in the pot and the action was checked to O'Rourke who bet 3,200.
O'Rourke's opponent thought for some time before calling and seeing O'Rourke turn over . That was enough to send the of his opponent into the muck and rake in the chips.
A couple more faces have been noticed in the field. Both Brendon Rubie and Tony Hachem have been seated at Octavian Voegele's table in The Star Poker Room.
