Kelly Killing

He's not one you would expect to see at a $2,200 ANZPT Sydney Main Event, but it's not surprising that Dan "djk123" Kelly is already building a big chip stack.

The biggest hand to add to add to Kelly's stack began when a middle position player opened it up to 375. Kelly was in the small blind when he made the call and the big blind player also threw in enough to see a flop.

The {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop would see Kelly check, along with the big blind player. The original aggressor then led out for 700. This is when Kelly made the check-raise, throwing out 2,400. The big blind player made the call and the original aggressor got out of the way.

The {3-Diamonds} on the turn would see Kelly lead out for 4,200. This prompted his opponent to shove all in. Kelly snap-called and turned over his {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, well ahead of the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} of his opponent.

The river fell with a {9-Spades} and that was all she wrote for Kelly's opponent as the prominent young player now storms to the top of the chip counts.

Just as it has ticked over to the second level, David Steicke has taken his seat at David Allan and Jonathan Karamalikis' table.

Wing With Aces

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We just had a quick wander through the Oasis Room and saw Tom Wing take down a nice little pot. It all started when a player from middle position opened it up and Wing then three-bet from the hijack seat. A call would see some cards dealt on the felt.

Both players checked the flop and the turn as a board rolled out {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. On the river, Wing's opponent bet 1,025 and Wing made the call.

Wing's opponent confidently turned over {k-Diamonds}{j-}, which quickly went into the muck as Wing turned over his {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

Another One Strolls In

Jesse "On The Mac" McKenzie is the latest player to take his seat in this bumper field on Day 1a of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event.

Benton Loses One Early

A recent hand involving Aaron Benton began when the player in the hijack seat opened it up to 300. Benton was in the cutoff when he made the call and the small blind player also came along for the ride.

The {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Clubs} flop would see all three players check as the {5-Hearts} hit the turn. The small blind player checked again and this time the hijack player bet 850. Benton made the call along with the other player and the {7-Spades} would land on the river.

This time all three players would check and Benton would send his cards into the muck when the small blind player rolled over {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}.

Argyros Pounds Table

When we came to Billy Argyros' table there was a board showing {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and Argyros was up against one opponent, who had bet out 5,000 after Argyros checked.

Argyros was in the tank for a long time before he flung his cards into the muck. This was when his opponent tabled {a-}{10-}. This prompted Arygros to give the table a slight thump with his fist in frustration.

The Oasis Lounge

With such a large field already taking to the felt tonight, there has been four tables placed in the Oasis Lounge. It's quite a world away from The Star Poker Room, but we'll do our best to let you know the progress of some of these familiar faces who we noticed in this area.

Two Guns

Both Jonathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis and David "dasve798111" Allan are without a doubt two of the fiercest online poker players in Australia and the world. Tonight they sit at the same table. Let's see if they rumble or stay away from each other.

Who's Around

The tables are filling up fast, with an almost 250-player capacity field expected for tonight's Day 1 flight. Here's a look at who we recognize after a quick walk around The Star Poker Room.
