We were recently called over to Table 5 to find Jesse McKenzie all in on the river of a board. McKenzie's one opponent was Michael O'Grady and McKenzie had his opponent covered by a small amount. Eventually O'Grady made the call and then mucked his hand when McKenzie tabled .
With that McKenzie, or "On The Mac" as he is known online, scooped up the handy pot and now sits behind a stack nearing 30,000 in chips.
Oliver Gill has just scooped up a massive pot to see his chips reach more than double the starting stack.
We arrived at the hand in question on the turn, with a board on the felt and with Michael Chon having bet 1,000, which was raised to 2,300 by Linas Leonovas. Gill then made the call, while Jesse McKenzie folded the button. Back on Chon and he raised it up to 5,000. Leonavas folded here and a completed the board on the river.
This time Chon bet 4,000 and Gill quickly made it 10,000 to go. Chon made the call.
"Full house," said Gill as he turned over . Chon mucked his cards and just like that Gill collected plenty of chips.
Table 5 has been fairly active during the early stages of Day 1a of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event.
We recently watched Ben Richardson open to 500 and then Martin Boersma three-bet to 1,400. The action folded back around to Richardson and he four-bet to 3,200. Boersma wanted no part of the hand and let the chips go to Richardson.
The very next hand started with Nathan Harvey opening to 550 from early position. Tom Grigg then three-bet to 1,275 from the button and Ali Ghezelbash moved all in for 8,025 from the big blind. Harvey got out of the way and it was back on Grigg. Eventually Grigg opted to fold, at which point Ghezelbash showed .
"Boom!" Grigg said at the sight of the kings.
"Just lay down six-four did you?" quipped Stevan Chew from across the table.
The tournament clock is telling us that there are 35 players entered here on Day 1a of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event. However, that number is a few off as we can count 42 players currently seated at the tables. It is likely that we will see a similar field, if not a little larger, on both Day 1b and Day 1c. Hopefully we can get close to pushing 150 entrants and making this event the largest ANZPT Queenstown in the tour's history.
"I just bluffed all in on the second level!" Gill yelled to no one in particular over at his table as he turned over .
We only caught the aftermath of the action. There was a board on the felt and Gill was all in going up against one opponent. There was already around 15,000 in the pot at this point and Gill was all in for over 10,000. Gill's opponent, Jean Relecom, tanked for quite some time before eventually folding. When Gill showed his pocket queens, Relecom didn't look very happy.
"I got him to fold aces," Gill quipped. "I turned my queens into a bluff, but you couldn't call."
Gill then got out of his seat and told a few players about his early all-in.
