The field has broken 500 players! Crown Poker Tournament Director Joel Williams has just let us know that the prize pool is now over $1 million as the total field is currently 502 players. That is well and truly the largest ANZPT Melbourne at this buy-in level.
We have noticed more and more players here on Day 1b of the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event. The following players were spotted over in the tournament area near the bar: Brett 'brett_threat' Chalhoub, this year's Aussie Millions Six-Max runner-up David Leas, Nam le, Nick Oiberman, Alek 'Krasark' Givotovsky, Jesse 'On The Mac' McKenzie, Shivan Abdine, Zteven Zhou and Australia's most prominent female poker player, Jackie Glazier.
"I've got a bad feeling about this," one player said to Victor Teng on the river of a board. The player had seemingly checked to Teng, who had bet all in by the time we arrived at the action. There was only 2,700 in the middle and Teng had moved all in for 6,575. Teng’s opponent had 9,000 behind.
The player tanked for a long time before opting to let it go.
As Teng raked in the chips, he quietly checked his cards one last time.
Despite winning this pot, it clearly has been a great start to the day for Teng as he is sitting on around half the starting stack.
Some of the notable players in the tournament area closest to the bar area include recent Sydney Champs victor Martin Kozlov, 2014 ANZPT Sydney 5th-place finisher Rory Young, 2012 APPT Queenstown champ Dave Allan, Perth regulars Bernard Beh and Tony Tartaglia, Matt 'mjw006' Wakeman and 2014 ANZPT Perth runner-up Dean Blatt.
There are still plenty of empty seat at the tables in this section of the tournament, but we can tell you that the Day 1b field is up to 225, which brings the total field size to 467. Reminder - registration is open for the first four-hours of play, closing at around 4:30 p.m.

Welcome back to the Crown Poker Room as we are set for Day 1b of the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event. This is the second and final Day 1 flight and by all reports, it's going to be quite large!
There were 242 entrants in the $2,200 buy-in event on Day 1a and somewhere near 300 isn't out of the question for Day 1b. It's quite likely we will at least see 250 or more players, which will mean somewhere near a seven-figure prize pool. Regardless, there were already well over 400 total entrants in the prize pool last night, which means this is the largest ANZPT Melbourne, by field size, in history.
Of the 242 players on Day 1a, exactly 85 survived after eight 60-minute levels. Anthony 'leggieblufs1' Legg, with 160,200 in chips and Akash Mazumdar, with 152,000, set the pace with the two largest stacks.
All the action on Day 1b is set to kick off at 12:10 p.m. local time and you can catch all the live updates here at PokerNews! It's going to be a massive day, so be sure to tune in and find out who from Day 1b makes it through to Day 2.
