More Chips for Chua, Botta Slipping

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

Overnight chip leader Vincent Chua raised from under the gun to 3,000 before Daniel Botta three-bet to 8,500 in the small blind. Chua made the call before the two kept it friendly with a couple of checks on the {a-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts} board.

When the {4-Spades} river landed, Botta made a bet of 12,000 to give Chua something to think about. The two exchanged some friendly banter before Chua eventually made the call.

Botta showed {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} expecting to be good but Chua had {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for a sneaky set on the river.

“I was trying to decide whether to raise, but I didn’t know what you could call with,” defended Chua as he climbs, while Botta slipping back to 65,000.

Not Another ANZPT Final Table for Mathers

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

Jazz Mathers finished in 4th place in the recent ANZPT Sydney Main Event which was good for a six-figure win. However Mathers won’t be repeating that effort in Melbourne after his recent elimination.

Mathers was crippled with top pair versus a set and then committed his last 4,100 with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Dylan Honeyman took it on from the small blind with {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, and despite being dominated, Honeyman caught good on the {q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{9-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} board to send Mathers to the exit.

Dennis Not Scared of Barrel

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

“Full barrel! What were you putting me on?” Michael Christodolou asked Dennis Huntly at the end of hand that played out to the river of a {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} board.

We picked up the action on the river, with Huntly in the small blind position, checking to Christodolou on the button. Christodolou fired an apparent third bullet here, making it 7,500 to go. After plenty of time thinking, Huntly made the call.

At showdown, Christodolou tabled {j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for a whole lot of nothing. Huntly’s {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for bottom pair was enough to scoop the pot and to get a few people at the table to tell him he made a good call.

Productive Hour for Huang

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang has had a productive first hour, or so, of play on Day 2. Huang is up to 250,000 in chips. Huang fell just short of making an ANZPT Melbourne final table in 2012, ultimately finishing in 12th place. Maybe this year Huang will find some retribution.

Honey Shoves, Takes Pot

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We recently arrived to find Dylan 'WhiteRabbito' Honeyman involved in a pot with one player on the turn of a {j-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{k-Diamonds} board. There was already around 30,000 in the middle and Honeyman jammed for 20,200 here. Honeyman's lone opponent went into the tank and eventually opted to fold, sending the pot to Honeyman.

Honeyman's largest live tournament result came in this very room when he won the Aussie Millions $1,650 Bounty event in 2013.

Big Stack Update

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Here are the approximate stacks of some of the chip leaders early here on Day 2.

Hachem Takes Hit, Kempson Chips Up

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

2005 WSOP champ Joe Hachem has just taken a chunky hit to his stack. Corey Kempson, on the other hand, is now soaring well above six-figures.

We arrived on the river of a {5-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts} board, at which point there was around 20,000 already in the pot. Kempson was first to act and led out for 19,700. Hachem made a fairly quick call, which prompted Kempson to flip over his {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. Hachem simply slid his cards into the muck.

Gorr Gone, Adrian Flying

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We’ve just lost 2011 Aussie Millions champion David Gorr from the tournament.

Gorr’s last stand came with a three-bet shove for his last 23,900 from the big blind holding {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Adrian Bolzonello had opened with a raise from the cutoff and he made the call to be racing with his {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} to pair up Bolzonello for the knockout. Gorr hits the rail as Bolzonello is up with the chip leaders on 160,000.
