Day 2 Started

Day 2 of ANZPT Perth Set to Begin with 145 Hopefuls

After two Day 1 flights, dozens of bust outs and some dramatic controversy, the record starting field of 256 players has been whittled down to the 145 who will return for Day 2 action.

Leading the way with the only six-figure stack is Day 1b chip leader Brian Mcallister. The closest player to Mcaalister is WSOP bracelet winner Andrew Hinrichsen, while players such as ANZPT Auckland champion David Lim, WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim, Stev Lackovic, Minh Nguyen, Asj Taylor, Full Tilt ANZPT Ambassador Tom Grigg, Dale Marsland, Sal Fazzino, Oliver Gill, Dylan Honeyman and James Broom are just a few of the notable names still in contention.

All of the returning players will be hoping to pick up a big piece of the $512,000 prize pool. The eventual champion will pocket $131,900, while the top 27 will finish in the money. We are unlikely to reach the money on Day 2, but the players will still likely have their eyes on the prize.

The cards will be in the air from 12:30 p.m. on Day 2 and we will once again be here providing all the live updates, while our friends at the PokerStarsBlog will have plenty of feature stories for you to sink your teeth into. Be sure to join us all day long as we continue moving toward crowning the next ANZPT champion!

Cards in Air on Day 2

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

The players have scrambled into their seats, ripped open their bags and the cards are in the air!

Once again the players have been reminded of some of the unique rules here at Crown Perth.

It has also been announced that we will be playing just six 60-minute levels today. That means Day 3 tomorrow will be a little on the long side, but means players will be able to enjoy a free Friday night.

Quick Farewell to Levy

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

It took just a few minutes for Daniel Levy to be eliminated on Day 2 of the ANZPT Perth Main Event.

All Levy’s chips went in on a {2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop, with Levy holding {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} against the {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} of Matthew Moller.

Levy seemed deflated as the dealer flipped over a {4-Clubs} turn and a {q-Diamonds} river.

No help for Levy and he was sent out of the tournament area.

Moller is up to around 60,000.

Jabba Looking for More ANZPT Perth Success

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

James Broom is one of Australia’s most respected poker players. He’s at the felt for Day 2 of the 2014 ANZPT Perth Main Event and will be looking to improve on his seventh-place finish in this event last year.

We recently watched Broom pick up some chips against Nicholas Lee. There was already a {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} board on the felt when we arrived and Lee was in the hijack checking to Broom on the button. Broom bet 4,200 and Lee called. The river was a {10-Clubs} and this time both players checked.

At showdown, Lee tabled {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of fives. These cards went into the muck when Broom turned over {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Broom is starting to build his stack towards 40,000.

Three-Way Winner for Blatt

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

One player has been eliminated, another has been crippled and Dean Blatt has shared in all the spoils of winning a three-way all in.

Jason Tompkins was the big stack in this situation and he held {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, having Blatt covered holding {a-Spades}{k-Spades} and short-stack
Sava Kakkos covered holding {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Blatt was all in for 22,400 and Kakkos was all in for 8,850.

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, with a great flop for Blatt and safe turn and river cards securing the pot. With that
Blatt is up to just under 60,000.

Blatt has just under $100,000 in tournament results on his record, coming off a 3rd place in the $1,650 Bounties event at the 2014 Aussie Millions.

Stanton Scoops One

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

David Stanton is fresh off a deep run in the Aussie Millions Main Event. He finished in 26th place, oh-so-close to a mega score, but ultimately collected $35,000. He’s here today and has started Day 2 strongly.

We arrived at the action with Stanton rumbling in a hand against Ngoc Long Dam. There was already over 20,000 in the pot by the time the dealer had spread out a {9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop. Stanton was in the small blind position and he checked. Dam, from the hijack, checked behind and the dealer flipped over a {10-Spades} turn. This time Stanton led for 12,000 which sent Dam into the tank. Eventually he folded and the pot went to Stanton.
