Day 2 Completed

Fazzino Flies into ANZPT Perth Day 2 Chip Lead

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Chip leader, Sal Fazzino
Chip leader, Sal Fazzino

Just moments ago 48 players counted their stacks of various sizes, bagged and tagged their chips and made their way out of the Crown Perth Poker Room as Day 2 of the ANZPT Perth Main Event has drawn to a close. Leading the way, with 258,200 in chips, is notable local player Sal Fazzino

Considering the day started with 145 hopefuls, there were a huge amount of disappointed players on Day 2. One of the first players eliminated was Daniel Levy and from there, names such as Tony Tartaglia, Mile Krstanoski, Jesse McKenzie, Patrick Crivell, Minh Nguyen, Nathan Gubieski and Full Tilt ANZPT Ambassador Tom Grigg were also eliminated. One of the largest stacks heading into the day was Oliver Gill and he quickly skyrocketed towards the peak of the chip leader board early on Day 2, but then within just a few hands also found himself on the rail.

While all these players weren’t able to survive Day 2, players like Patrick Mahoney, Luke Spano and Stephen Woodhead all thrived and finished with big stacks. They trail Fazzino who will be looking to improve on his recent 14th place finish in the Aussie Millions Main Event.

Some of the others who are still alive and in contention to take home the ANZPT Perth title include Dean Blatt, recent ANZPT Auckland champion David Lim, Dylan "WhiteRabbito" Honeyman, Justin Walch, Brian Mcallister, Tristan Bain and the last remaining ladies Tamara Volkhoff and Lorinda Johnson. Be sure to check out the most recent post in the live reporting blog for the full end-of-day chip counts and the Day 3 seating draw.

All the aforementioned players, and all the other surviving contenders, will be hoping to make it into the 27 money-paying positions and then move toward the six-figure first-place prize.

By the time tomorrow’s Day 3 is in the books we will have reach the final table, so be sure to join us from 12:30 p.m. as we continue to bring you all the live updates from the 2014 ANZPT Perth Main Event.

Lim Hurt Late

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Aaron Lim has taken a big hit late in the day as Stevan Tabb has landed a big double up. The chips were in preflop with Lim running his {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} into Tabb’s {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}.

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} to see Tabb’s kings hold up to collect the 140,000-chip pot. Lim was left with just 60,000 in chips.

Final Five Hands

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The tournament clock has been paused and each table will now play the final five hands of the night.

Stay tuned for any late action and of course, the end-of-day chip counts and Day 3 table draw.

Late Lackovic Double

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Stev Lackovic has just found a very handy double uo..

We arrived at the hand in question to find a {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop already on the felt and with Brian Mcallister checking to Lackovic, who bet 4,900. Stephen Woodhead mae the call and a {7-Spades} hit the turn. This time Lackovic check-called a bet of 11,100 and a {2-Hearts} completed the board on the river. Lackovic once again tapped the table and Woodhead bet 35,000. Lackovic called off his last 30,600 and the cards were tabled.

Woodhead had just {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for king-high, while Lackovic won the pot with {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

Bain Booming Late

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Tristan Bain has started to build a stack late into the day.

We recently arrived to find Bain, known as “SkunDen” online, on the river of a {7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board and going up against three opponents. Bain was in the big blind position and led for 11,200 into a pot in excess of 20,000. All three opponents folded and the chips went to Bain. He’s up to around 150,000.

Maclean Sends Two Home

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Cale Maclean has recently eliminated two players in one brutal blow. The chips were all in preflop with Maclean holding {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} but a long way behind a player with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}, while Michael Pedley’s tournament life was on the line with just one out holding {j-Hearts}{J-Spades}.

The flop was {K-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} but it was the {K-Spades} turn card which gave Maclean trips to the disgust of the player with aces. The river was a bricky {8-Clubs} to see two gone as a fortunate Maclean climbs to around 140,000 chips.
