Day 3 Completed

Murray Leads Season 6 ANZPT Perth Final Table

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Paul Murray
Paul Murray

Four days ago 256 players ponied up the $2,200 buy-in to take part in the ANZPT Perth Main Event. Now, after an action-packed Day 3, just nine remain in the contention for the title and the $131,900 top prize.

Leading the final table, with 1,206,000 in chips, is Paul Murray. He may have the most chips, but it will not be an easy task for Murrary to go all the way with tough competition such as Scott Davies, Sal Fazzino, Patrick Mahoney, Justin Walch, Vesko Zmukic and Dean Blatt part of the final nine.

When Day 3 began there were still 48 players alive and hoping to make it to the final nine. Unfortunately most of those players couldn't do that, with Nicholas Embury the first player eliminated, followed by players such as Bobby Tang, Tristan Bain, Eddie Mascardi and Scott Buchanan.

It took around three hours of play before 28 remained, with the top 27 set to make the money. In the end it was Dylan "WhiteRabbito" Honeyman who bubbled and from there Anthony Morenko (27th), Luke Spano (25th), Andrew Hullah (24th), ANZPT Auckland champion David Lim (21st) and WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim (20th) were some of the early in-the-money eliminations.

The eliminations continued at a steady pace throughout the afternoon, with Aaron Wilson (17th), John Aufdemkampe (16th), Richard Larkin (14th), Stev Lackovic (13th), Tamara Volkoff (12th) and Ricky Kroesen all getting very close to the final nine, but ultimately falling short of glory. Once Stephen Woodhead was eliminated in 10th place, the final nine was set!

Stephen Woodhead Bubbles Final Table

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

It didn’t take long for the final table bubble to burst with Stephen Woodhead sending his chips in the middle in a dramatic bluff.

We arrived to see around 250,000 already in the middle and Woodhead all in on a board of {2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Spades}. His opponent was Paul Murray who sat in the tank for several minutes considering his decision. It was a scary board but Murray eventually committed to the call with {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for the straight as Woodhead sighed and flipped over {J-Clubs}{K-Hearts} for king-high.

Just like that Woodhead is out in 10th place as our final table of nine has been formed, with Murray now likely to be in contention for the chip lead. Stay tuned for the official chip counts and seating draw.

Stay tuned for a full wrap of the day's action, and of course, the all-important final table draw!

Ricky Races to Rail in 11th

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Ricky Kroesen was in the small blind when he three-bet jammed for 229,000 holding {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} after Patrick Mahoney had opened the small blind with a raise. Mahony instantly called and tabled his {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

The {5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} board didn't help Kroesen and he was eliminated in 11th place, taking home $8,200.

We are now down to 10! One more elimination and we are at the final table.

Play will now be hand-for-hand at two five-handed tables until we get to nine.

Volkoff Gone in 12th

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

When the action folded around to Tamara Volkoff in the small blind, she would jam for 79,000 holding {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. Unfortunately for Volkoff, Vesko Zmukic woke up with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} in the big blind and snapped it off, having around 100,000 in chips.

The board ran out {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Volkoff was sent home in 12th place, collecting $8,200.

Two more eliminations before we are at the final table!

Lackovic Lost in 13th

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Patrick Mahoney opened with a min-raise to 20,000 and Ricky Kroesen thought for a few moments before tossing out a call. Action was then with Stev Lackovic who glanced at Kroesen’s stack before committing himself all in for 198,000. Play passed back to Mahoney who moved all in over the top to force a quick fold from Kroesen.

Lackovic: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Mahoney: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}

“Saved!” chirped Kroesen as he was able to avoid a clash with the overpair, while Lackovic found himself racing for his tournament.

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to brick the board and leave a despondent Lackovic on the rail in 13th place. Meanwhile Mahoney is playing the rush at the right time as he’s now up over 650,000 in chips.
