Over and Out, Roger

Roger Spets
Roger Spets
Roger Spets has been eliminated. He pushed for 16,000 over the top of a raise by Joe Hachem to 2,200. Andrew Scott made the call.

Spets: {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Scott: {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}

Some people might call this a classic race, but they'd be mistaken. Scott actually held a 58-to-42 edge over Spets. Spets let out an excited, "Yes!" when the door card was the {A-Spades}, but the dealer spread the flop to reveal a {4-Diamonds} and a {10-Clubs} to go along with it. Spets was reduced to running cards for the win and didn't get them. In fact, Scott wound up with quads after the board completed {2-Diamonds} {10-Spades}.

Scott now has 58,000 chips.

Here Comes Johnny!

Johnny Chan opened with a raise to 2,000 from the button and Xuan Nguyen popped it up to 4,500 from the big blind. Chan made the call.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and Nguyen led out for 8,000. Chan made the call. The turn was the {8-Spades} and Nguyen checked to Chan who fired 15,000. Nguyen eventually gave up his hand to give the healthy pot to the two-time World Champion, as Chan is now in very good shape with 80,000 chips.

Tyler Cornell Falls

Tyler Cornell
Tyler Cornell
Inexorably towards the final table we march. Tyler Cornell is the latest casualty of the field. He shoved for 23,000 from the small blind after a raise by Ivan Tan and a reraise by Quinn Do. Do made the call with {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, needing to dodge only an ace when Cornell showed {A-Spades} {9-Hearts}. Do found a queen on the {5-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} flop to match the two in his hand and won the pot with a turn of {3-Hearts} and river of {4-Diamonds}.

Those chips pushed Do up to 91,000.

Wong Gets It Right

Danny Wong
Danny Wong
Danny Wong opened with a raise to 2,300 from late position and found callers in Joe Hachem, Andrew Scott, and Van Marcus.

The flop came down {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and Scott led out with a 6,000-chip bet from the small blind. Wong bumped it up to 18,000 and the table folded as he collected the pot, moving up to 81,000.

Matt Kay Eliminated

Matt Kay eliminated
Matt Kay eliminated
The short stacks continue to make moves here on Day 2 of the High Rollers Event. Matt Kay opened from the button for 2,500. Xuan Nguyen, sitting in the small blind, popped Kay to 8,500. When action folded back to Kay, he moved all in and Nguyen, just barely covering Kay, called.

Kay: {A-?} {9-?}
Nguyen: {8-Spades} {8-Hearts}

It must be somewhat disappointing to survive through almost seven levels just to have all your chips in the middle on a flip. It's probably more disappointing when your opponent flops a set, {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Spades}, and you can't come up with the necessary running cards to overtake him when the turn and river come {2-Spades} {5-Clubs}.

Kay was eliminated, and Nguyen has moved up to 50,000.

The Steicke Secret: "They're Only Chips!"

David Steicke and Eric Assadourian
David Steicke and Eric Assadourian
It's turning into the David Steicke show here, but when someone is playing nearly every hand, aggressively, with multiple opponents, in big pots, it's hard to look elsewhere when the other tables are sitting back and enjoying the slow structure of this tournament.

In a recent pot David Steicke opened with a raise to 2,400 from the cutoff, with Eric Assadourian calling on the button, and Quinn Do and Nam Le out of the blinds.

They saw a flop of {J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{J-Spades} and it was checked to Steicke who fired a 3,600 continuation bet into his three opponents. Assadourian was the lone caller.

The turn brought the {2-Clubs} and Steicke fired 7,200. "You don't get scared that I called you?" quizzed Assadourian. "Alright nice hand," he said as he folded his hand.

"They're only chips!" quipped Steicke as he extended his lead.

Terrence Chan Eliminated

Now only one Chan left in the field
Now only one Chan left in the field
Terrence Chan got his chips in bad, and they didn't come back out. He led out for 3,200 on a flop of {J-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}. When Yury Kerzhapkin moved all in, Chan made the call for his tournament life.

Chan: {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}
Kerzhapkin: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}

After doubling up with rockets earlier, Chan turned around and ran straight into them. He needed a miracle two-outer, but the turn and the river were the {9-Clubs} and the {K-Diamonds}. He's out.

Julian Powell Next Short Stack to Double Up

The short stacks are doing a remarkable job of hanging around so far this afternoon. Julian Powell is the latest player to double up. He took a limped pot in a battle of the blinds against Andrew Pantling. Both players checked the {8-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} flop. When the turn came {6-Clubs}, Pantling checked again, bringing a bet of 1,200 from Powell that Pantling called.

The river was the {J-Spades}. Pantling checked one more time to Powell, who shoved all in for 10,600. When Pantling called, Powell confidently tabled {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} for turned trips and a winner. He now has 25,000 chips.
