The Champ is Out

Dinh Le
Dinh Le
Dinh Le, winner of the 2007 APPT Macau Main Event, was not able to make it to Day 2 in 2008. He got involved in a raising war preflop against Joon Hee Yeah. All of the chips were soon in the middle, with Le the player at risk of elimination. He tabled pocket kings; Yeah showed ace-jack offsuit. A flop of {6-?} {Q-?} {4-?} was no help to Yeah, but he spiked an ace on the turn and dodged the two remaining kings when the river fell {10-?}.

Le stood stunned at the table for a few seconds while the pot was pushed to Yeah, then walked away talking animatedly with a friend who had come to sweat the hand.

Yeah is up to about 31,000 in chips.

Derias Doubles

Sherif Derias is another short stack to find a recent double-up. Derias only held a marginal {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and things looked bleak when his opponent tabled pocket queens. However the board of {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{8-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} gave Derias two pair and the pot to move up to 9,500.

Bulldozer Busto

Hevad Khan Eliminated
Hevad Khan Eliminated
Hevad Khan has been eliminated after back-to-back blows on the river sent him spiraling to the exit.

The first blow came on a board of {K-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} when Raymond Wu moved all in for his last 8,250. Khan thought for a while before making the call but could only shake his head when Wu revealed {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a rivered set.

Khan was left with 3,000 in chips and committed them holding {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} only to run into the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} of David Chiu. The flop of {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs} changed nothing, but Khan spiked a {9-Clubs} on the turn to take the lead. However the suck-resuck came when Chiu hit his two-outer on the river with the {A-Clubs} falling to end the day of Khan.

So Long, Steve Sung

Steve Sung
Steve Sung
Steve Sung is out. He flopped top pair, top kicker on a queen-high board and got all in against an opponent who flopped a set of fives. Sung did not improve on the turn or river.

Oh Yeah

Joon Hee Yeah has gone back into accumulation mode. He raised to 700 preflop and was called by the button. The flop was all hearts, {2-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. Yeah checked, then called when the button overbet the pot for 1,800. Both players checked the turn {J-Diamonds}. The river paired the board by falling {Q-Clubs}. Yeah checked a third time, bringing a bet of 3,000 from his opponent. After some thought, Yeah called and tabled {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} for two pair, queens and fours. That beat the airball thrown by his opponent with {A-Clubs} {7-Spades}.

Yeah is back up to about 20,000 in chips.
