Davidson Can't Shake Top Pair and Pays the Price

Rodney Davidson, one of the players near the front of the pack, took a heads up flop of {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}. Acting first, he led out for 2,375 and was called. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and Davidson again fired, this time for 5,000. His bet brought the same result -- a call from his opponent. Davidson finally slowed down on the river {Q-Clubs} and checked. His opponent checked behind and showed {K-Spades} {9-Spades}. That was enough to beat Davidson's {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts}. He slips to 36,000.

Janitor to Table 9!

Watch where you step near Table 9.
Watch where you step near Table 9.
With many players making their first trip to Macau for this tournament, there has been quite a bit of partying going on at night. Sometimes too much partying. One of the players at Terrence Chan's table looks like he had a rough night. Maybe he drank too much, maybe the play at his table today has been stomach-churning, or maybe he ate something from the raw bar at the dinner buffet last night. Whatever the reason, he has been visibly ill all day. It was apparently too much -- his stomach just emptied its contents into his hat, right at the table.

"Chucky" ran off the tournament floor as soon as his stomach convulsions ceased. Upon returning five minutes later, one of the other players at the table said, "Welcome back! Did you wash your hands?"

"Obviously not," said Chucky. "I guess I should."

"We would appreciate that," remarked Terrence Chan as he suspiciously eyed Chucky's hands and chips. "We'll wait the hand for you."

Meanwhile, a member of the tournament staff disappeared into the kitchen of the nearby players buffet to search for a bucket. He returned with two large plastic cups to see Chucky slumped over his table.

"All players in the Main Event," began the floor as he picked up a microphone and turned it on. "Please wake up. We need you awake to play. Including Table 9."

He then brought the cups over to the table, placed them in front of Chucky and got back on the microphone. "This is an official warning for a chucker on Table 9. This is not cricket. On the next chuck he gets a round."

Next break in 45 minutes, Chucky!

Two Jacks Equal Twice the Stack for "Not Johnny" Chan

After an early-position raise to 1,200, action was on Terrence "Not Johnny" Chan, who called. Action folded to the player on the button, who raised to 3,600. The original raiser called, sending action back to Chan. He immediately raised all in and was called only by the button player.

Chan: {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}
Button: {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}

It was a classic race situation that Chan won when the board bricked out nine-high. He now has 25,000.

...And Stumbles Again

Dominic Mykhalsto has half the chips he had half an hour ago. He raised to 1,000 from under the gun and was called in two spots. On a flop of {8-Spades} {9-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, Mykhalsto led out for 2,300. One player called.

The turn was the {J-Clubs}, which both Mykhalsto and his opponent checked. They also checked the river {3-Clubs}. Mykhalsto opened {A-Spades} {J-Diamonds} for second pair, but lost the pot when his opponent opened {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}. Mykhalsto is down to 21,000.

Mykhalsto Stumbles

On a board of {10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and with the pot already sizable, Dominic Mykhalsto called a bet of 4,500 from his opponent. They went to the river of {6-Clubs} and Mykhalsto now stared down the barrel of a 7,000-chip bet from his opponent.

Mykhalsto eventually laid it down to slip back to 26,000.

MacPhee-arless

Kevin MacPhee
Kevin MacPhee
Kevin MacPhee continues climbing through the ranks of this poker tournament. He was the only caller of a preflop raise to 750 from the player on the button. When the flop came down {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {10-Hearts}, everything went haywire. MacPhee checked to his opponent, who opened for 2,000. MacPhee raised that bet to 4,000, but his opponent was undeterred and moved all in. MacPhee made the call and the cards were opened:

MacPhee: {K-Hearts} {10-Clubs}
Button: {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}

Middle pair and a flush draw for MacPhee against top two for the button. MacPhee promptly hit his heart draw with the {J-Hearts} on the turn, and dodged his opponent's full house draw with a harmless {9-Spades} river.

As the button player got up from the table, MacPhee said "Good game," but the button didn't seem to be in much of a mood to hear it. MacPhee now has about 40,000 chips.

Liu Folds Under Pressure

Win some, lose some for JJ Liu
Win some, lose some for JJ Liu
JJ Liu stack has been bobbing up and down all afternoon. With 2,600 in the pot, she led out for 1,600 on a flop of {K-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {5-Spades} and was called by the player in the cutoff. The turn was the {6-Hearts}. Liu checked to her opponent, who bet 4,000. Liu eyed his stack and made the call.

When the river fell {J-Spades}, Liu checked again. Her opponent then shoved all in for about 10,000. Liu went into the tank for about a minute, then unhappily folded. She now has about 12,500 in chips.
