Drivsholm Doubles Through Chiu

Jeppe Drivsholm
Jeppe Drivsholm
A hand that commenced before the start of the break has taken nearly ten minutes to complete!

The flop was {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts} and David Chiu led out from the small blind for 62,000. Jeppe Drivsholm moved all in for an additional 220,000 and Chiu tanked for a long time before making the call.

Chiu flipped {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} for an overpair and gutshot straight draw, but Drivsholm showed {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for two pair!

The turn was the {K-Spades} and river the {3-Diamonds} to double up Drivsholm to 830,000 leaving Chiu with only 220,000.

Due to the length of that hand, the break has been extended a few extra minutes.

Mark Walsh Eliminated in 13th Place ($12,967)

Mark Walsh - 13th Place
After Diwei Huang opened with a raise from the button, Mark Walsh moved all in for his last 76,500 from the big blind. Huang made the call.

Huang: {A-Spades}{J-Spades}
Walsh: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} to counterfeit the pair of Walsh and award the pot to the ace kicker of Huang.

Huang now sits with over 1 million chips as Walsh heads to the rail in 13th place for a payout of $12,967.

What Else is Going On?

Play has ground to a predictable crawl as we get near the final table bubble. That's not to say that nothing is going on here at the Grand Waldo. There are two other tournaments taking place on the tournament floor -- a HK$1,000 no-limit hold'em tournament that went off about an hour ago, and a HK$3,500 mega satellite to the next APPT stop, Seoul, South Korea. The Seoul tournament series will be held in late September.

There's also a typical amount of side action taking place in the poker room just upstairs.

Tiikkaja Calls Sabat's Bluff

Taneli Tiikkaja has gotten some breathing room and some distance from the specter of elimination. In a limped pot between Edward Sabat and Tiikkaja in the blinds, Sabat made it 12,000 to go on a flop of {8-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {10-Clubs}. Tiikkaja called.

When the turn came {3-Spades}, Sabat repeated his 12,000-chip bet. This time Tiikkaja raised to 42,000. Sabat responded by reraising all in. Tiikkaja, with just 85,000 behind, shipped it in.

Sabat: {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}
Tiikkaja: {10-Hearts} {8-Hearts}

Sabat needed any club on the river to send Tiikkaja to the cage. He didn't get one when the river fell the {J-Hearts}. Tiikkaja doubled up to about 300,000, sending Sabat back down to 570,000 in the process.

Joel Dodds Eliminated in 14th Place ($12,967)

Kuok Wai Will Cheong raised it to 20,000 from under the gun and the action folded around to Joel Dodds in the small blind who moved all in for 108,000. The big blind folded and Cheong insta-called.

Cheong: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Dodds: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The board landed {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Dodds couldn't find a miracle queen and was sent to the rail in 14th place for $12,967.

A Steicke Situation

David Steicke raised to 25,000 preflop and was called by David Chiu and Jeppe Drivsholm, both in late position. The three players took a highly coordinate {10-Hearts} {J-Spades} {10-Spades} flop. Steicke followed up on his preflop raise with a pot-sized flop bet of 75,000. That was enough to fold Chiu, bot not Drivsholm. He reraised all in for 250,000.

Steicke went into the tank, but unlike yesterday he did not make any sort of miraculous call, choosing instead to fold.

Not Even Sabat Can Stand Up to the Chuck Truck

Where is the immovable object that will stand up to the unstoppable force that is Charles Chua? Even Edward Sabat is having difficulty handling Chua. The two players took an unraised flop of {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs} and checked it through to the turn {J-Diamonds}. There Chua bet 10,000. Sabat raised him to 20,000, but Chua raised right back to 70,000. Sabat made the call.

On the river {A-Diamonds}, we thought there might be some more fireworks. Instead both players checked it down. Chua was first to open and showed {8-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair. That was a winner.

Sabat and Chua are both a shade under 700,000 chips.
