Dueling Full Houses

There have been scores of big hands running into big hands today. It happened again between Anthony Rafter and Kevin Flett. Rafter popped it up to 1,525 from the button and was called by Flett out of the big blind. Both players checked when the flop came down {Q-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}. On the turn {K-Spades}, all hell broke loose.

Flett acted first, and bet 2,000. Rafter raised that bet to 5,025. Action passed back to Flett, who reraised to 25,000. Rafter was undeterred -- he moved all in and Flett called.

Flett: {4-?} {K-?}
Rafter: {Q-?} {Q-?}

Flett turned a small full house, but Rafter had flopped a bigger one. The river was a brick, the {2-Spades}, and the massive pot belonged to Rafter. He's up to 76,000 while Flett is down to 42,000.

Oh Noh

Tae Jun Noh picked a bad time to jam into Masa Kagawa. Noh held {5-Spades} {5-Hearts} and really liked the {4-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} flop. But Kagawa held an overpair of his own and called with {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}. Noh was unable to hit any of his ten outs as the board ran out {Q-Clubs} {K-Clubs}. He has left the tournament area. Kagawa is up to 52,000.

The Wheels in Tan's Head Say "Call"

Ivan Tan
Ivan Tan
Jay Huxley has played lots of pots today, showing an unrelenting willingness to splash chips around. He found himself in the small blind, calling the early position raise to 1,500 made by Ivan Tan. The flop came down {5-Spades} {2-Clubs} {A-Spades}, and Huxley decided to lead into Tan for 2,000. Tan made the call.

On the {6-Hearts} tun, Huxley checked. Tan came in for 4,000, leaving himself about 13,000 behind. Huxley quickly raised the bet to 12,000. Tan took some time to think things through. He appeared to come to the conclusion that he had to go with his hand, and moved all in. Huxley let out a big sigh but couldn't fold for just 5,000 more. He called and tabled {8-Clubs} {8-Spades}. Tan was ahead with {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} and dragged the pot after the dealer burned and turned the {K-Spades} on the river.

Huxley slips back below 100,000 chips for the first time in a while, finishing the hand with 85,000. Tan is up to about 42,000.

Chang Eliminated

Back-to-back APPT final tables are not in Michael Chang's future. After finishing 4th at APPT Manila, he failed to advance to Day 2 here in Sydney. His last 5,000 chips went into the middle with pocket fours; one player called with pocket kings. Chang never improved.
