Ma Rewarded for the Right Call

Zhi Hong Ma on Day 1
Zhi Hong Ma on Day 1
With 9,000 in the pot preflop, Zhi Hong Ma led out on a flop of {6-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}. His opponent, who had him covered, moved all in.

Ma stood up from his chair and leaned over the table, thinking carefully through his decision. His opponent had Ma covered, so if he called he would be the one at risk of elimination. He did elect to call after about a minute of thought, tabling pocket kings. His opponent showed {J-Spades} {9-Spades} and promptly picked up a flush draw with the {8-Spades} turn. The river, however, was a harmless-to-Ma {5-Diamonds}. Ma doubled up and now has approximately 97,000 chips in his stack.

Scott's Stack Shrinks Some More, Then Evaporates

Things have gone from bad to worse for Andrew Scott. Down to 14,700, he found himself in a race with an opponent whose stack was even shorter than his. Scott was ahead preflop with {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} against his opponent's {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}, but in second place by the river on a board of {10-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {2-Spades} {9-Spades} {K-Spades}. He had a mere 5,700 chips left in his stack.

Scott put the rest of his stack in a few hands later with pocket threes. He was called by {A-?}{10-?} and lost his second race in as many tries. He's out.

Gill Gets the Best of Assadourian

Carter Gill
Carter Gill
The feature table is providing its fair share of action. Carter Gill opened a recent pot to 2,200 and was called by three players, including Eric Assadourian. Action checked to Gill on a flop of {7-Spades} {5-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}. His bet of 4,700 was called only by Assadourian.

Both players checked the {3-Spades} turn. When the river fell {K-Hearts}, Assadourian checked a third time, then called a bet of 9,500 from Gill. Gill showed {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} for the winner. He's up to 59,000.

Goonawardana Rivers Jung in Monster Pot

Marlon Goonawardana
Marlon Goonawardana
Marlon Goonawardana has been splashing around recently and just captured a monster pot in dramatic fashion.

In raised pot, the flop of {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} triggered an all-in clash, with Goonawardana tabling {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for top two pair, but Wang Che Jung showed {K-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for the second-nut flush!

The turn was the {J-Spades} but the river was a repeat {6-Diamonds} to give Goonawardana a full house and the huge pot! He's now up to 150,000 with Jung back to 68,000.

Assadourian Makes Nice Read

Eric Assadourian
Eric Assadourian
Over on the new feature table Eric Assadourian took his seat and laughed, "I don't like being under the spotlight," before the first hand had even been dealt.

But he didn't take long to get in the swing of things. The board was {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} when Assadourian was faced with a 11,000-chip decision.

He eventually made the call with {J-Spades}{5-Clubs} for just a pair of jacks, as his opponent tabled {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a busted draw. Assadourian is up to 91,000 chips.

Feature Table Change

We've had a changeover at the feature table, with the previous table having been broken in normal table break order. Notable players now on the feature table include Eric Assadourian, Lee Nelson and, as TD Danny McDonagh described him, the "quiet American," Carter Gill.
