Nguyen Doubles Through Lee

Minh Nguyen
Minh Nguyen
Minh Nguyen had doubled up through Chris Lee. The chips were in on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Hearts} with Nguyen's {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} in front of Lee's {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

The turn was the {K-Hearts} to leave Lee with only the gutshot draw as outs, however the river was the {9-Spades}. Nguyen is now up over the 100,000 mark, with Lee slipping to about 170,000.

Ali G Heads Back to the Studio

Ali "Ali G" Ghezelbash put his lot in with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}. He was called by Michael Fraser, who tabled {A-Spades} {10-Hearts}. Ali G was behind, but caught top pair on the {k-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} flop. He needed only to avoid the remaining three queens, which would make a straight for Fraser. The turn was the {9-Clubs}, giving Fraser a few more outs. The river came a deadly {Q-Hearts} to knock Ghezelbash out of the tournament.

Fraser is up to 130,000.

Bluff Radio Show Live

As play slows down, it seems like a great time to remind everyone that the Bluff Radio Show will be broadcast nightly during the APPT Grand Final on Melbourne’s SEN 1116 AM. Sean Callander and James Potter in Sydney, and Paul Khoury and Stephen Doig in the Melbourne studio, will be on the air from midnight-1am each night providing updates from Star City (assuming we finish by midnight, that is). Previous nights' installments are available on podcast from www.bluffaustralasia.com.au.

PokerNews presenter Melissa Castello chatted with the boys before their segment last night about life in the poker industry and about the show itself. Have a look-see:

Pickering Peaking

Jamie Pickering
Jamie Pickering
It's the time of the evening where Jamie Pickering tends to be at his finest. In a recent hand, George Lind raised to 8,000 from early position and Jamie Pickering made the call on the button. The two saw a flop of {3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and Lind led out for 10,000. Pickering bumped it up to 25,000 and Lind made the call.

The turn was the {K-Hearts} and Lind checked over to Pickering who fired out 30,000. Lind once again made the call. The river was the {Q-Diamonds} and once again Lind checked to Pickering who fired a hefty bet of 50,000.

Lind went into the tank for a long time, and David Gorr was forced to call for the clock. He eventually folded saying "I don't want to see it! I had a king mate." Pickering didn't show, he just raked in the chips to climb up to 370,000.

Programming Note

We've been informed by tournament staff that the current plan is to keep playing past the end of Level 14 until the money bubble bursts. Given (1) that we're still 22 spots off the money, (2) players' natural inclination to tighten up on the bubble, and (3) that we're already at the tail end of a long day which tends to cause players to tighten up even more, and it could be a while before we're done for the day.

Lackovic's Charmed Life Comes to Abrupt End

Petar Lackovic eliminated
Petar Lackovic eliminated
Petar Lackovic has been living dangerously for most of the last two levels. He finally paid the price. He check-raised Jason Gray all in on a flop of {9-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} after Gray had led out for 13,000. Gray snap-called with {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} and was in great shape against Lackovic's {7-Hearts} {9-Hearts}. The board bricked out {K-Spades} {10-Spades} to finally eliminate Lackovic from the tournament.

Gray is up to more than 200,000 as a result.

Quads Again?

We've seen enough quads during the course of this tournament to last a whole month of online play. Tony Basile was the latest beneficiary, flopping quad sevens and slowplaying them to perfection. When his opponent moved all in on the river, Basile made the easy call. He's up to 230,000 in chips.

Sansi Eliminates Another But Receives Warning

Manish Sansi has just eliminated a short-stacked opponent. He held {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} to be in a dominant position against his opponent's {A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. However the board was complete overkill when it arrived {5-Clubs}{J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} to make Sansi quads! He's now up to 160,000.

Shortly after this hand Sansi was given a warning by Tournament Director Danny McDonagh. It appears that Sansi may have been stalling as we approach the money bubble. McDonagh made it perfectly clear that all players had been given sufficient warning and if the stalling continued then he would only have ten seconds to act on every hand.

Lackovic Avoids Elimination Again

'I open-shoved without looking," explained Petar Lackovic as the dealer chopped a pot between Lackovic and Jason Gray. "Keep raising my blinds." The board read {K-Spades} {7-Spades} {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}. Each player had an ace -- Lackovic showing {A-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} and Gray showing {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}.

Gray did not seem amused by Lackovic's explanation.

Tank City for Pickering and Lind

It started as a simple pot that George Lind raised preflop and Jamie Pickering called out of the big blind. The two men took a flop of {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}. Pickering was first to act and checked to Lind, who bet 8,000. After a short period of deliberation, Pickering check-raised to 18,000. That put Lind in the tank before he reraised to 33,000. Pickering four-bet it after over a minute in the tank, making it 58,000 to go. Lind tanked again, but this time he let it go.

Pickering is up to 325,000 in chips.
