Whither ElkY?

ElkY
ElkY
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is sitting right in front of media row. Given that ElkY is such a known quantity and excellent tournament player, you'd think we would have called his name several times by now. The truth is that ElkY has been quietly chipping up. It may be that he's *too* close to us for us to pay much attention.

ElkY's count stands at 44,000 after eliminating short-stacked player just a few moments ago. The chips were all in the middle preflop, with ElkY tabling the favored hand, pocket tens, against his opponents {A-?} {J-?}. The board ran out {K-?} {6-?} {8-?} {9-?} {q-?} to give the pot to ElkY.

By the way, if you had "red" in the "What Color Will ElkY's Hair Be Today?" pool, you win.

Boeree Busts

Boeree now on the rail
Boeree now on the rail
We quickly noticed that Liv Boeree's seat was empty and Sida Yuen was raking in a sizeable pot.

Asking Yuen about what may have happened to Boeree, he informed us that she isolated over a few limpers before he re-raised over the top.

Boeree committed the last of her chips holding pocket eights, and Yuen made the call with Queens.

The board bricked out and Boeree hit the rail as Yuen continues to surge ahead of the field.

Tran Keeps Accumulating

Theo Tran opened the pot to 800 and Nali 'Iraqi Nick' Kaselias made the call from late position.

Tran fired out 1,600 on the {8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts} flop with Kaselias making the call before both players checked the {J-Clubs} on the turn.

When the river landed the {10-Clubs}, Tran lead out for 8,000 and Kaselias quickly folded to see Tran rake in the pot and move to 74,000 and change.

Fitzgerald Assassinated

Fitzgerald falls
Fitzgerald falls
We walked over to find Alex 'Assassinato' Fitzgerald all in for 3,425 minus a single 500-denomination chip capped on his cards.

Fitzgerald found one caller before an opponent in the blinds bumped it to 14,000. Fitzgerald tossed in his last chip as the other active player passed.

Fitzgerald: {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} to see Fitzgerald hit the rail, but not before enjoying a shot of Tequila with friend Carter Gill!

Josh Pang Ang Doubles

Joshua Ang in action

"Blank it, blank it, blank it!"

They were the screams coming from Joshua Ang with his {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} all in against an opponent's {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

All of the money went in on the flop of {J-Spades}{7-Spades}{10-Spades}, and Ang's wish would be granted when the turn and river landed the {5-Hearts} and {3-Diamonds} to see the Singaporean double through to just on 40,000 in chips.

Kim Caught Bluffing

Wooka Kim, in happier times
Wooka Kim, in happier times
It's been a quiet few levels today for many of the players that frequent the circuit. Wooka Kim numbers among that crowd. Kim, sitting in position, was the only caller of a preflop raise to 800. Her opponent checked the {A-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} flop; she checked it right back.

The turn was the {10-Clubs}. Kim's opponent led out for 1,200 but Kim wasn't done with the hand. She wanted to see one more card and called to the river, which fell {2-Hearts}. When the action checked to her, Kim made a stab of 2,800 chips. Her opponent could be seen going over the action in his head before tossing a call into the pot.

Kim didn't immediately turn over her hand, a sure sign that a player knows he or she is beat. She knocked the table "good hand," then turned up {3-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} for two pair, treys and deuces. Her opponent showed {A-Spades} {7-Spades} for aces and deuces to take the pot.

Kim is down to 12,500.
