Edgar Flips a Flush

With a raise to 3,400 and an all-in shove for 32,000 in front of him, Chris Edgar looked down at {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} in the small blind and re-raised to a total of 70,000. The early-position raiser thought long and hard before making a reluctant fold as Edgar found himself racing with the short stack’s {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

Edgar didn’t hit a pair but the {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} board gave him the king-high flush which was good to collect the pot and eliminate his opponent.

The Chip Leader Alive

Antonio Martins began the day as the chip leader and while that isn't still the case halfway through the day, he is still in great shape.

We recently caught Martins in a hand against one opponent. By the time we were at the table, a flop was showing {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Martins had checked to his opponent on the button. The player bet 11,300 and Martins then check-raised it up an extra 15,300. Martins' opponent wasn't keen to rumble any further and decided to let his hand go.

Steicke The Magician

Here’s something you don’t see every day. David Steicke open-limped the button. We weren’t sure if we were seeing things, but never one to doubt the powers of the great man, we took note and watched on. Sammy Huang smelt something fishy and folded his small blind as Ted Wang was lured in as he tapped the table in the big blind.

The flop landed {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Wang led out with a bet of 1,500. Steicke made the call. The turn brought the {8-Clubs} to put four clubs on board and a check from Wang. Steicke toyed with his chips before sliding out 3,300. Wang deliberated for some time before making the call.

The river was the {j-Hearts} to now put four to a straight on board and Wang checked once again. Steicke gave a wry smile before seemingly tapping the table in resignation. Wang opened {10-Spades}{3-Hearts} for top pair but the powers of Steicke were demonstrated as he tabled {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a straight. Kids, don’t try this at home.

The Eerie Silence of Carter Gill

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

Carter Gill and Jacky Wang have been dancing a pas de deux today at a table near the front of the room. They were at it again just a few moments ago, with Wang opening from middle position for 2,800 and Gill calling from the button. Wang continued for 2,900 on a flop of {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}; Gill called to see the {k-Hearts} hit the turn. Wang's bet of 3,700 wasn't enough to shake Gill, as he called again. The river {5-Diamonds} brought a check from Wang and a bet of 7,000 from Gill.

"Soul read Carter one time?" Wang mused aloud. He stared intently at the board and at Gill for about a minute before tossing 7,000 into the pot. Gill silently turned over {7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, an airball. Wang showed {a-Spades}{3-Spades} for a pair of treys and the winner.

"Nice hand," said Gill.

"Figured it was the right time for it, right?" Wang asked. Uncharacteristically, Gill had no response.

A Waste For Wang

Jacky Wang has steadily built up a stack that sees him sit as one of the chip leaders in the room with will over double the average stack.

When we came to Wang's table there was a flop showing {k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Wang and one opponent were both committing 2,100.

The {4-Spades} on the turn would see Wang lead for 3,700 and his opponent would make the call. The {7-Clubs} on the river would see Wang think for some time before opting to check. His opponent then checked behind.

"Ah, i have Ace-King, what a waste," said Wang as he tabled his cards and sent his opponent's into the muck.

Steicke Loses Some

David Steicke has just taken a small hit to his stack. When we arrived at his table, a short-stacked Daniel Palau was all in and Steicke was pondering his decision.

Eventually Steicke opted to call, turning over {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. A this point Palau tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and Steicke said, "why couldn't you have Ace-King?"

The board ran out with no help for Steicke and Palau took down the double-up, while Steicke took a small hit to his stack.
