Scotty Wins a Pot Before Dinner

Holding pocket nines, Scotty Nguyen flopped gin when the first three cards off the deck came {5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. His opponent led into him with a 2,200 bet and Scotty just called. The turn brought the {5-Diamonds}, giving Scotty a boat and this time his opponent bet 4,000 - again, Scotty just called.

The {3-Spades} fell off on fifth street and the first action was passed to Scotty, who fired a 5,100 bullet. His opponent gave up on the hand, at which point Scotty flashed his pocket nines saying, "What are you doing, Baby? You want to just give me your chips?"

Lisandro Eliminated

Short-stacked, Jeff Lisandro shoved his last 4,100 into the middle from the small blind, holding {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. A player who had limped in from under the gun made the call and tabled two black fives.

The {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} flop severely diminished Lisandro's chances of winning the pot, and the {4-Clubs} on the turn locked it up, sending Lisandro to the rail about 20 minutes before the dinner break.

"I did it all for PokerStars!"

. . . so said James Potter, a PokerStars sponsored player, after eliminating Full Tilt pro John Juanda from the main event. Juanda had moved all in from early position holding {Q-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and was called by Potter who tabled pocket kings.

The board filled out 3-7-10-6-10 and Potter's kings held up to take down the pot, eliminating Juanda from the tournament.

De Guzman Wins a Monster

Renato De Guzman just took down a huge pot with pocket aces, going runner-runner for an ace-high flush. A player in mid-position opened the pot for a 1,100 raise and De Guzman bumped it to 3,900. The big blind cold-called the raise and the original better got out of the way.

The flop came {J-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Renato led the betting, making it 5,000 to go; his opponent called. The turn brought the {10-Hearts} and Renato opted to move all in for approximately 20,000. His opponent called with what chips he had left, amounting to about 17,000, and turned over {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for the second nuts; Renato then revealed his pocket aces - one of them being a heart.

Needing a heart to stay alive, help came in the form of the {J-Hearts}, giving Renato an ace-high flush and the 50,000+ pot. After the hand, De Guzman stacked up just over 67,000 in chips.

Juanda Crippled

Full Tilt pro John Juanda called an early-position raise with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} and a multi-way pot ensued. The flop came {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Juanda led out for 3000. The cutoff raised to 6000 and Juanda moved all in for 12,000. The cutoff called and opened {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. The {4-Diamonds} hit the turn and Juanda is down to 4000 in chips.

David Saab Eliminated

Facing a 1,000 pre-flop raise from a player in early position, David Saab made a play at the pot, moving all in over the top of the raise for a total of 6,200 holding 9-2 offsuit. Unfortunately for Saab, his opponent looked him up, tabling A-Q, which held up to win the pot, eliminating Saab from the main event.

Hachem Takes a Hit

Joe Hachem has just been involved in a huge multi-way pot which saw him lose close to half his chips. The UTG player raised to 1100 and was called by a player in late position. Joe made the call from the big blind with {3-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and the flop came {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

Hachem checked, the UTG player bets 3000, the late-position player raises to 6000 and Joe re-raises to 10,000. The UTG player folds and the late-position player moves in for 10,100. Joe calls the extra 100 chip and the late-position player opens {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. The turn and river don't improve him and Hachem is down to 16,500 in chips.
