It's Good To Be Chipleader

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Alvan Zheng
Alvan Zheng

Alvan Zheng, the current tournament chip leader, min-raised to 1,600 from UTG+1 and found callers from middle position, late position and the small blind.

The small blind checked to Zheng after seeing the {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop. Zheng bet 3,200 which prompted everyone to fold. It's as if everyone wants a shot at his chips but no one really wants to tangle with him. Zheng is getting stronger as the day nears its end.

Torres Doubles

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Billy "The Croc" Argyros opened to 2,000 from middle position and was snap called by the player to his left. Victorino Torres was in the cut off, and opted to raise it up to 6,500. The action folded back around to Argyros who folded, with the other player in the hand making the call.

The flop of {7-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs} saw an instant shove of 15,000 in chips from the other player in the hand, and Torres quickly made the call for his last 9,100 in chips.

Torres: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

Torres flopped a set of jacks and assured himself the pot when the turn and river fell the {q-Hearts} and {3-Clubs}.

The End of Day Slow Down

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

You can tell we are nearing the end of day 1. Players are looking ahead to day 2 and want to make sure they make it. As a result, there are plenty of folds to a well-timed 3-bet and few flops are being seen. Even the chatter in the room has come down a few levels.

Kuo Triples

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

We arrived at the table just as Kitty Kuo moved all in for her last 6,000 from late position. She was called by the player in the hijack, before another player in the blinds moved all in for his last 24,900 in chips. With the decision back on the player in the hijack, he also made the call.

Kuo: {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
Hijack: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Big Blind: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{a-Clubs} to see Kuo river an ace to take down the main pot. The big blind ended up winning the side pot and moving up to 37,800, leaving the player in the hijack with 7,500 in chips.

An extra 1/2 Level of Play

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

We were just informed by APPT President Danny McDonagh that players will be playing 7 1/2 levels today. That means the players will go on break in just a few minutes and then come back for 90 more minutes of poker fun.

Yung Let's It Go

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

We arrived at the table as the player in the hijack opened to 1,250. Percy Yung made the call from the cut off, as did the player on the big blind.

The flop came down {7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and the action checked around to Yung who threw out 2,600 in chips. Her opponent in the big blind didn't look too impressed, turning his head to the side and staring into the distance. He then appeared he would make the call with the bet in his hand before quickly reaching for more chips and throwing out a raise to 6,000. The other player in the hand got out of the way, and Yung made the call.

The {j-Hearts} fell on the turn, and this time Yung's opponent picked up several chips in one hand before reaching down with the other and threw in a bet of 14,000 in chips. Yung was not fazed by her opponent tricks, and sat motionless for a minute before asking him for a count.

After his chips were cut down by the dealer, Yung opted to muck her hand relinquishing the pot to her opponent.
