The Lows and Highs of Van Marcus

Van Marcus
Van Marcus
There has been some incredible action going down on table 18 and Van Marcus is right in the middle of it.

In a hand with one short-stacked player all in, Van Marcus re-raised pre-flop to 25,000 and received another caller.

There is then confusion with the dealer struggling to get the size of the side pot correct, much to the annoyance of Marcus. In frustration he decides to put his opponent all in on the flop in the dark. The flop brings {5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Marcus feeling confident, encourages his opponent to make the call. He eventually does and Marcus has two players all in:

Marcus: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Opponent 1: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Opponent 2: {A-Spades}{5-Spades}

Marcus is well ahead, but disasterously the turn and river come {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and incredibly both of his opponents make straights.

The very next hand Marcus raises from the small blind and appears to be seriously tilted. Marcus fires three barrels on the board of {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Spades} and gets action from his opponent. Marcus flips over {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} and his opponent mucks and amazingly the chip stack of Van Marcus is restored once again to around 85,000.

Danny Joukhadar Joins Chip Leaders

Danny Joukhadar has milked his pocket aces for all they are worth with a well played hand that kept his strength well disguised. On a board of {5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Spades}, Joukhadar simply flat called his opponent pre-flop and on the flop, and then got all the money in on the turn when his opponent spiked a pair with his {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Joukhadar has now amassed 90,000 in chips and is one of our tournament leaders.

Van Marcus Still With Plenty Of Chips But Not Happy

With heavy action from two opponents pre-flop, Van Marcus was forced to make a big laydown with pocket jacks.

It was a tough decision and he was relieved to see his opponents cards - {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} and {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} - however his attitude quickly changed when the flop came {J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Marcus is still currently well placed at around 75,000 in chips but he would've had a commanding chip lead if he had played this hand.

Time Confusion for Internet Qualifier

In a multi-way raised pot, a short-stack came over the top and pushed the rest of his stack into the pot pre-flop. It was folded around quickly to an unknown Internet qualifier who appeared to be giving the decision much deliberation.

The player was not aware that the previous players had already folded and didn't realize the action was on him. After close to five minutes of apparent deep thought, the dealer called a tournament director over and called "time" on the player, giving him 60 seconds to act on his hand. The Internet qualifier suddenly realised that "time" was being called on himself and apologetically threw his card into the muck.

Ace High Good Baby

After three players checked the flop and turn, the board read {2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} as Scotty Nguyen fired 2,000 into the pot on the river. One opponent folded but the player on the button made the call.

"You going to embarrass me baby, I got ace high" says Scotty as he flips over {7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}.

"It's good" replies his opponent.

"You trying to embarrass me with queen high baby?" chirps Scotty as he rakes in a nice pot much to the delight of the gallery swarming his table.
