During the dinner break, the inaugural Australian Poker Hall of Fame inductions were made at the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championships welcome party. This year's inductees, in alphabetical order, comprise: Billy Argyros, Gary Benson, Tony G, Joe Hachem, Mel Judah, Jeff Lisandro, and Lee Nelson. There were only supposed to be seven inductees, but everyone was surprised when Maurie Pears was also added to the list.

There could only be one Australian Poker Legend out of that group. That honor went to 2005 WSOP Main Event winner Joe Hachem. Hachem gave a poignant speech about merely being "in the right place at the right time," but Crown Director of Poker Operations Jonno Pittock told a story of being in the Crown poker room the night that Joe Hachem won the 2005 WSOP Main Event.

"You could cut the air with a knife," Pittock said. "When I announced over the P.A. that Joe had won the Main Event, it was like we all won the Main Event." It was a touching display of Aussie pride.
