Burd Eliminated, Vakili Advances to Quarter Finals

Round 2

The moment we thought it was still going to stretch even further, Ralph Burd moved the last of his money into the middle preflop with {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

Sam Vakilis called with {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}; the dealer spread the flop of {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, which improved neither hand but gave Vakilis the open-ender.

BANG - down came the {4-Clubs} on the turn! Burd needed any six to keep the game alive, but the river was a meaningless {j-Spades}.

Vakilis ends the marathon match a 2-0 winner and will play Vanessa Selbst for the last spot in Day 2. Burd is busto, but he was very philosophical about the whole thing.

"The two guys I played today played poker properly," Burd told us at the desk. "It was really enjoyable."

Round 2

The last Round 2 match of Sam Vakili and Ralph Burd continues - a small crowd has gathered to watch on, including Sherrie Gelberg, a handful of Vakili's friends and the Best Hands Shiatsu massage crew.

The length of this match has exceeded four hours and it's taking its toll on everyone - we actually haven't seen a flop for 30 minutes.

Smith Eliminated, Woods Advances to Day 2!

Quarter Final

Barry Woods has just managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Daniel Smith, leaving only one quarter final to be decided.

Smith moved all in preflop with {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Woods called him down with {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. The dealer produced a flop of {4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, pairing both players but Woods
managed to spike the {5-Hearts} on the turn for two pair.

Needing a six or eight to double through, Smith was eliminated when the {10-Hearts} bricked out on the river.

Woods makes it through to Day 2, leaving only Vanessa Selbst and the winner of the match between Sam Vakili and Ralph Burd, which is still locked at 1-0. We could be in for a long night.

Daniel Smith: 1 vs. Barry Woods: 0

Quarter Final

It's now back to 1-1 in the match between Daniel Smith and Barry Woods.

Smith got his money into the middle with {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and found himself ahead of Woods' {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

However the dealer spread the board of {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades} to give Woods trips and sending their quarter final into a decider.

"I'm going to do this the old fashioned way," Woods proclaimed to Smith in jest. "I'm going to beat your young internet ass into the ground!"

Andrew Lichtenberger: 1 vs. Josh Tyler: 1

Quarter Final

Josh Tyler has managed to make it all square in his quarter final match after managing to make two pair on a board of {j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} holding {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

Lichtenberger had mucked his hand at showdown, clearly not impressed with Tyler's play. But, it's heads-up, so anything goes.

Quarter Finals Time ... Well, Almost

We are now able to establish our quarter final matches, which are all in different progressions, as follows:

Martin Gudvangen def. Aytunc Tezay 2-0

Andrew Lichtenberger: 1 vs. Josh Tyler: 0

Lichtenberger secured the first game in their quarter final match after Tyler moved all in on a flop that read {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} with {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} but ran into the {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} of Lichtenberger.

The turn and river ran out {q-Spades}, {6-Spades}, leaving Tyler with just 1,200 in chips, which he lost a short time later.

Daniel Smith: 1 vs. Barry Woods: 0

Woods got it in with {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} and looked in great shape to take first blood against Smith who tabled {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

However the board was a heart-breaking {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Spades} which crippled Woods down to 2,500. Like Tyler before him, he was one game down only moments later.

Vanessa Selbst vs. Sam Vakili/Ralph Burd

Vakili and Burd are still battling on in their Round 2 match. Selbst is forced to wait.

Katchalov Eliminated, Lichtenberger Advances to Quarter Finals

The other 'long game' came to an end when Eugene Katchalov found himself in a flip for his tournament life, getting his money into the middle with {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} against Andrew Lichtenberger's {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

However the board was spread {a-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and Katchalov was KO'ed, losing in straight sets to Lichtenberger.

Lichtenberger now faces Josh Tyler in his quarter final match.

Ralph Burd: 0 vs. Sam Vakili: 1

We've finally seen a result in the match between Ralph Burd and Sam Vakili!

After close to three hours of play, Burd moved the last of his money into the middle preflop with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and was in great shape against Vakili's {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

However Vakili managed to hit on the board of {3-Clubs}{a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts} and take the first game - much to the relief of both players!
