Neilson Noticed

When we had a wander to the far side of the tournament room we noticed that there are several tables set up to accommodate for the growing field. One of the players we noticed was Daniel Neilson and we also caught a hand that saw him adding to his stack.

A raised pot saw Neilson take to a {8-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop against one opponent. Neilson was first to act and he led for 1,400 before his opponent made a quick call.

The turn came with a {9-Hearts} and this time Neilson check-called a bet of 1,800 and watched as that {5-Spades} landed on the river. Both players slowed down on this last card, opting to check.

Neilson took down the nice little pot holding {k-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, which was too strong for the {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} of his opponent.

Neilson will be looking to continue his impressive form from 2011 which saw a huge score when he finished in 3rd place in the EPT San Remo event.

One for Tran

With about 2,500 in the pot and a board reading {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, an unknown player checked to Trung Tran, who checked behind. Both players repeated the action on the {9-Hearts} river, and the unknown player revealed {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for a rivered pair of nines, which was defeated by the {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} of Trung.

While he won that hand, Trung is still below the starting stack and sitting with 8,000.

Mizzi Drops a Little; Lee Out

Four players saw a flop of {3-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and action checked to Sorel Mizzi, who put out a bet of 725. The player on the button called, while both the small and big blind folded. The dealer proceeded to burn and turn the {2-Diamonds}, which inspired Mizzi to check. His opponent took the opportunity to bet 725, which prompted Mizzi to give it up.

Meanwhile, Dave Lee has been eliminated from the tournament.

Welcome Back to the Aussie Millions Maria Ho & Sorel Mizzi

It seems a few notables have made the trek across the Pacific for this year's event as we've spotted Sorel Mizzi and Maria Ho in the tournament field.

If you recall, Mizzi has had quite a bit of success here at the Aussie Millions. He has final tabled the Main Event the past two years and just missed out in 2009 when he finished 16th. No wonder he's back!

Another Table Begins

The satellite has long finished and another table has just popped up in the tournament area. As we walked by and glanced toward the table we noticed a few of Australia's more recognizable poker faces.

Kanaan Sends One Packing

Just before the level up, Michael Kanaan limped from middle position only to have the player on the button raise to 400. The small blind then three-bet to 1,250, the big blind called, and Krost woke up with a limp-raise to 3,000. The button and small blind both folded, while the big blind came along for the ride.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and the big blind insta-shipped his stack of 4,400. Kanaan seemed hesitant, but made the call nonetheless.

Showdown
Kanaan: {A-Spades}{7-Spades}
Big Blind: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

Kanaan was ahead but needed to dodge the nut-flush draw of his opponent. The {K-Spades} turn gave the big blind a whole new set of outs, but the {5-Clubs} river blanked. "I never hit a draw," the big blind lamented as he exited the tournament floor.

Kanaan is up to approximately 16,500.

Judah Jams Early

We haven't seen too many players exiting the tournament area at this early stage of the tournament. That was until Australian poker legend Mel Judah was seen quickly striding towards the rail.

While we missed some early action which obviously left Judah with a short stack, we did manage to catch the last hand of his tournament.

By the time we got to the table, Judah had his last 4,250 committed to the pot after a raise and a call in front of him. One opponent got out of the way before the initial raiser made the call.

Judah: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Judah sighed when his opponent turned the cards over. The sigh would be greeted with another sigh or two as the {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{a-Spades}{7-Clubs} board was dealt out.

After Judah left the table, one of the players turned to our PokerNews reporter and said, as he pointed to the player who just eliminated Judah, "We've only played 16 hands at this table and that guys played 15 of them"
