Downes Eliminated as the 2014 Aussie Millions Bubble Boy

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Luke Downes watches helplessly as the board fails to save him.
Luke Downes watches helplessly as the board fails to save him.

Despite doubling the hand before, Luke Downes has finished as the 2014 Aussie Millions bubble boy.

It happened when action folded to him on the button and he shoved for 23,000. The small blind folded, but Perth's Patrick Healy opted to look him up from the big.

Healy: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Downes: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Downes was behind, but he was drawing to two live cards. He actually found a pair on the {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} flop, but as you can see Healy did too. The {10-Hearts} turn put out straight possibilities, but it wasn't in the cards for Downes as the {9-Diamonds} blanked on the river.

A disappointed Downes made his way to the exit empty handed while the rest of the players erupted in applause in celebration of their guaranteed AUD$15,000 payday.

Double Downes on the Bubble

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

An extremely short-stacked Luke Downs committed his last 9,000 from the small blind and received a call from Florian Bussmann in the big. The two players sat for several minutes until action completed at the other tables. Eventually it did and the cards were turned up.

Bussmann: {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Downes: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The railbirds were deep and giddy with anticipation. However there excitement waned as the board ran out an uneventful {9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts}. Downes doubled, though he is still short. Meanwhile, Bussmann is up considerably since the last time we checked in with him despite losing that hand.

Seiver Four-Bets the Queen-Eight

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Scott Seiver opened to 10,000 from early position, and the action folded to Gareth Dwyer who three-bet to 33,500 on the button. Both blinds released, and Seiver responded with a four-bet to 79,000.

Dwyer went into the tank, staring at Seiver, then finally exhaled.

"Nice hand," he said, mucking his cards.

Seiver tabled {q-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for queen-high, and raked in the pot.

Stepanov Bubbles the Bubble

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Vladimir Stepanov was eliminated prior to the bubble, getting his chips in the middle with {a-Spades}{10-Spades}. His opponent was crushed with {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}, but rivered a king when the board ran out {6-Spades}{7-Clubs}{q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}.

With that we're down to 72 players and hand-for-hand play has been initiated. One more will leave empty handed. Who will it be? Stay tuned to find out.

Hall's Elimination Brings Us One Step Closer to the Money

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Laurence Hall was just eliminated short of the money.

He got his chips in good with the {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} against the {k-Spades}{j-Spades} of Raymond Wu, but getting it in good isn't always enough. In this case the flop came down {10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} to pair Wu and leave Hall in dire straits. Hall could see the AUD$15,000 minimum payday slipping through his fingers when the {A-Hearts} turned, and it was officially out of his grasp when the {10-Hearts} blanked on the river.

Barer's Lucky Double

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Canadian Ami Barer was just the recipient of a fortuitous double though Aaron Lim.

The money went in preflop with Barer holding {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} against Lim's {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, and Barer made a straight when the board ran out {10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. He doubled to 245,000 chips, while Lim fell to 105,000.

Angel Guillen
Angel Guillen

Angel Guillen was all in and at risk for 34,500 preflop holding {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}, and he dominated Tam Truong's {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Guillen's hand held up as the board came {6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, and the Team PokerStars Pro doubled to

No Help for Team Online's Randy Lew

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Randy Lew
Randy Lew

"All in and a call Table 32," the dealer announced. We made our way over to discover PokerStars Team Online's Randy Lew at risk against Luisa Helps.

Lew: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Helps: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The look on Lew's face seemed to be one of resignation. Indeed, it was a bad spot Lew, who would need either a nine or some miracle cards to stay alive. The {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop was as dry as could be, and that meant Lew needed one of the two nines. The {J-Diamonds} turn wasn't what he was looking for, and neither was the {Q-Hearts}.

Lew gave the table a nod, gathered his things, and then made his way toward the exit.
