Rubie Fails to Make the Dinner Break

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Brendon Rubie
Brendon Rubie

Minutes before the dinner break, Brendon Rubie, who is just two days removed from winning the 2016 Aussie Millions Event #10: $1,650 No-Limit Hold'em Bounty for AU$116,680, was eliminated from the Main Event.

We didn't see the hand as it happened, but Rubie informed us he busted after flopping trip jacks holding {k-}{j-}. Unfortunately for him, an opponent held {a-}{j-} and his short run came to an end in Level 4.

Fedor Holz Eliminated

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Fedor Holz's seat was empty and his stack nowhere to be found. Former table mate Tom Hall told us what had happened.

Holz had gotten short and found {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} with just 9 big blinds left. He shoved those in but got called by a player in middle position holding {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. Holz got a flush draw but it remained a draw, it never materialized.

Exit for the German high roller who'll take place at the $100,000 Challenge final table later this week.

Seidel Loses a Bit

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

With 10,150 in the middle we just witnessed Seidel check from the small blind. His neighbor, chip leader Patrick Zellweger, bet 3,800. Seidel quickly called but mucked upon seeing Zellweger's {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. A small loss for Seidel who's still on a way above average chip stack.

Jacobson Hits the Century Mark

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson, winner of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas for $10,000,000, fired a bet of 2,600 on the {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} board into two opponents after action checked around on the flop. His first opponent called, and the second one folded.

The river was the {4-Clubs} to put two pair on the board, and Jacobson checked. His opponent bet 6,000, and Jacobson called.

After seeing his opponent turn over the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, Jacobson tabled the {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} to win the pot.

Seidel Loses Some More

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

With roughly 2,000 in the pot and a flop of {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, Erik Seidel checked from the small blind and the player in the big did the same. A middle-position player followed suit, and then the player in the cutoff bet 1,100. Seidel called, the big blind folded, and the middle-position player called to see the {8-Diamonds} turn.

Seidel opted to lead out for 2,500, the middle-position player folded, and the cutoff called to see the {Q-Diamonds} river, which both players checked.

Seidel showed the {5-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for a flopped pair of fives, but it was no good as his opponent held the {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a flush draw on the flop that turned into a winning pair.

Kurganov's Bluff Fails

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

The board just read {7-Hearts}{J-Spades}{10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} when we noticed that Igor Kurganov had put his opponent all in for 17,200 with about 14,000 chips in the middle.

A good amount of time went by, before Kurganov got called.

Sheepishly Kurganov showed {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for complete air, and his opponent triumphantly tabled {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

Kurganov took a bit of a hit, but he still has 41,000 chips right now.

Thomas Muehloecker Eliminated

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Austrian high roller Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker was short after a big hand not too long ago, and now he has been eliminated.

Dietrich Fast told us that he had shoved all in for his last 12 big blinds with pocket sixes under the gun. The big blind woke up with {A-}{Q-} suited and turned the {Q-Hearts} to send Muehloecker packing.

First-Ever Female MSPT Champ Looking for Aussie Success

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Angelina Rich
Angelina Rich

Last summer, Angelina Rich topped a field of 1,964 entries to win the Mid-States Poker Tour Venetian for $215,815. Not only was it the largest event in MSPT history, she became first woman to ever win a MSPT title.

"That's the first one I've ever played," Rich said after the win. "It was nice. It was a Deepstack tournament, started with a ton of chips, structure was really good, especially towards the end. I was surprised by that in a three-day tournament. It was really good."

Interestingly, Rich is the significant other of Australian poker pro Alex Lynskey. Late last year the couple traveled the United States in a 1995 Chevy camper, but now they find themselves competing in the Southern Hemisphere's most prestigious tournament.

In a recent hand, Rich opened for 900 from the cutoff and WSOP Europe bracelet winner Dietrich Fast called from the button. The player in the big blind came along and three players saw a flop of {8-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. The big blind checked, Rich continued for 1,300, and both her opponents called to see the {9-Clubs} turn.

Two checks inspired Fast to bet 4,600, and that did the trick as both the big blind and Rich released.
