Marquez Turns Up Aggression

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Ana Marquez raised to 300 and Shane Warne called before the player in the small blind three-bet to 1,300. Both Marquez and Warne called and the flop was {k-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

The raiser continued for 1,400 and again got two callers. The three players all checked the {j-Diamonds} turn and it checked to Marquez on the {10-Diamonds} river. Marquez bet 7,400 and forced her two opponents out of the hand.

Jiang Aiming for another Big Score

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Back in April 2017, former teacher Sosia Jiang from New Zealand took down the PokerStars Championship Macau High Roller for a massive payday of HK$ 3,870,000 (approximately $498,073) and dominated the final table by sending almost every single opponent to the rail.

"After that I didn't play much, I was back to Macau once but it was only a small score. But now I am back here, almost on home soil and this is actually my first tournament of the year," Jiang added.

Shortly after, she raised to 250 in the cutoff and was called by Szymon Wysocki in the big blind. On the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop, Wysocki check-called a bet of 375 and did so again for 1,050 on the {4-Diamonds} turn. The {J-Spades} river was checked through and Jiang as last aggressor turned over the {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for top pair. That was enough to win the pot and she raked in the chips, stacking them neatly before putting her usual card protector on top.

Thwaites Summons the Call

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Simon Thwaites bet 3,800 from under the gun when the big blind checked to him on {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. There was already about 6,000 in the pot, so it swelled to nearly 15,000 when Thwaites received a call. On the {q-Hearts} river, the big blind came out betting with 6,500. Thwaites sighed and went into the tank. After a minute he announced a call.

The big blind showed {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} but two pair was no good against Thwaites' {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Thwaites breathed a sigh of relief and swept up the hefty pot.

Strelitz Blasting Right Away

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Daniel Strelitz is well-known for favoring the more aggressive side of poker and the American directly showed his tablemates why that is. Seated to the direct right of Niall Farrell, no stranger when it comes to creative plays himself, Strelitz saw a four-way flop from the small blind.

The flop was {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and all players checked to the button, who bet 250. Strelitz check-raised to 1,000, Farrell and another player folded, and the button called. Strelitz fired 2,500 on the {2-Spades} turn and received another call before the {4-Spades} river went check/check.

Strelitz casually rolled over {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a rivered pair of fours, while the button sighed and mucked.

Antoine Saout in the $25,000 Challenge
Antoine Saout in the $25,000 Challenge

Picking up the action on the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop, Adam Owen checked in the small blind and Antoine Saout bet 400, which Owen called. After the {Q-Spades} turn, Owen led for 1,000 and Saout made it 3.500 to go in order to pick up a call and the mixed game specialist Owen checked the {4-Hearts} on the river.

Saout bet 11,575 and Owen reluctantly called before quickly mucking to the {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} of the two-time WSOP Main Event finalist.

Ha, the "Donkey" With Quads

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

"I only collected the minimum, I am a donkey. Write that down, I called myself a donkey!" Mai Ha joked after his river bet got very few chips when his {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} hit back door quads eights. Ha was all smiles and the atmosphere on the table was very relaxed, Jack Salter next to Ma was also laughing. The table chatter continued for some time and Ha added "this is nuts, we already had quads six times here."

Ha and Salter have chipped up in the first level already for what it's worth.

Assorted Counts Across the Room

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

New entries include Florence Allera, Paul Vas Nunes, and Alex Foxen amongst others. Allera immediately raised to 325 after sitting down a few minutes ago and early big stack Simeaon Zacharias in the small blind three-bet to 1,150. Allera called and the flop fell {6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Zacharias continued for 700 and that's all it took to shut down all further action.

Cohen Wins One, Loses One

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

On a board that ran out {k-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Sam Cohen bet every street from the cutoff — 500, 1,000 and 1,800 — against the player on the button. That player called down but couldn't beat {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

The next hand, someone opened under the gun for 300 and got one call before Cohen made it 1,150 to go. The opener four-bet to 3,200, the squeezed player mucked and Cohen peeled. the flop came {2-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and the first player bet 3,500, getting a fast fold from Cohen.

Foxen Enters

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Alex Foxen (as pictured in the $25,000 Challenge)
Alex Foxen (as pictured in the $25,000 Challenge)

Alex Foxen has taken his seat on Day 1b of the Main Event and instantly picked up a nice pot. Foxen, who was one of the two players that didn't make the money in yesterday's ANTON Jewellery $50,000 Challenge, saw a {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop from the big blind.

After three checks, the button bet 525, the small blind folded, Foxen called and another player called as well. Foxen took over the betting lead on the {3-Hearts} turn and bet 1,800, which only the button called.

On the {4-Spades} river, Foxen amped up the aggression with a bet of 5,100 and the button folded.

Obst Still Climbing

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

James Obst bet 2,400 from under the gun, a pot-sized bet, on {5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades}. An opponent in the small blind called him, and the river was a {7-Hearts}. Obst fired big again with 6,000 but this time he took the pot without a showdown.

The Aussie crusher has had a profitable early level overall, increasing his stack by nearly 50 percent.
