Hata's Set is Not Enough

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Aymon Hata in the A$25,000 Challenge
Aymon Hata in the A$25,000 Challenge

Michael Gathy raised in late position and picked up two callers including Karl Symonds from one seat over. Aymon Hata then three-bet all in for 15,025 and big stack Gathy was the only caller.

Aymon Hata: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Michael Gathy: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Hata was behind and in need of help, which he immediately found on the {K-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} flop. Nothing much changed on the {A-Diamonds} turn, but the {9-Spades} river improved Gathy to the higher set and sent Hata to the rail in the penultimate level of Day 1a.

Coming into the final table as the short-stack, Anthony Marenko was the first elimination. He takes home AU$15,815 in his first Aussie Millions cash since cashing the Main Event back in 2012.

Dutch player Joep Raemaekers added a second cash of this year's Aussie Millions, finishing eighth for AU$18,890 before Australian Martin 'The Doc' Comer added the sixth of his career earning AU$21,965 for his efforts despite coming into the day second in chips.

Luke Martinelli has two second-place finishes in Aussie Millions side events before, but wouldn't be adding to it today finishing sixth for AU$27,585.

Start-of-day chip leader Joyce still lead five-handed, with Bjorn Ostby the short stack. He would bust next for AU$35,140.

Indian Jayan Prasad cashed in fourth for the best cash of his career, winning AU$52,710. Prasad cashed in the Opening Event at this year's Aussie Millions and now has a second cash in the southern hemisphere's most prestigious poker tournament.

Another player who cashed in the Opening Event earlier this festival was Joshua Abady who was next to go, winning AU$70,280 for the best cash of his career. This eclipsed a 33rd place in last year's Main Event for which he earned himself AU$35,000.

Heads-up a deal was done between start-of-day chip leader Toby Joyce and Vincent Huang which saw Joyce take home the lion's share of the prize pool. But eventually it as Huang who took down the tournament, the prize money and the coveted ANTON Championship ring.

Kim Loses Lots; Busts

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

In a big blind special, Yingui Li was paid off by Errolyn Strang when his bet of 6,100 in a three-way pot on the {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} river was paid by Strang only. Li turned over {8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for trips fours and claimed the pot.

One hand later, Eui Kim made it 1,200 on the button and Li three-bet to 3,900 in the small blind, which Kim called. On the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop, Li continued for 3,100 and Kim came along. The {7-Spades} turn was checked and Li bet the {a-Clubs} river for 10,500. Kim had just about that behind and eventually called, but mucked the {a-Hearts} when Li turned over {a-Spades}{8-Hearts} for aces and eights.

Down to fewer than two big blinds, the miracle comeback never happened for Kim and he bowed out soon after.

2019 Aussie Millions Bounty Champion Luis Arrilucea

Luis Arrilucea secured the biggest win of his career in winning the 2019 Aussie Millions Event #10: AU$2,000 Bounty event for AU$137,575.

He denied Dutch player Bas de Laat a second Aussie Millions ring in two years after winning the 2018 Mix Max event.

Arrilucea topped a 343 player field to become the latest ring-winner at the 2019 Aussie Millions. Here are the final table results:

PlaceNameCountryPayout (AUD)Payout (USD)
1Luis ArriluceaAustralia$137,575$99,054
2Bas de LaatNetherlands$93,665$67,439
3Ryan BowndsAustralia$58,540$42,149
4Craig McCorkellUnited Kingdom$46,830$33,718
5Danny TangHong Kong$35,125$25,290
6Ryan OttoNew Zealand$29,270$21,074
7Joel CohenAustralia$23,125$16,650
8Frank PezzanitiAustralia$17,270$12,434

There were a bunch of big names still in contention, from home and abroad, when the Bounty final table resumed earlier today. Frank Pezzaniti recorded the ninth Aussie Millions cash of his career and his third final table, but bowed out first taking home AU$17,270.

Fellow Australia Joel Cohen's only Aussie Millions cash to date came back in 2010, finishing 26th in the Main Event for AU$40,000 and he added AU$23,125 to that with a seventh-place finish today.

Ryan Otto was eliminated in sixth place for AU$29,270. This is the second-biggest cash of his career, behind cashing in the 2017 WSOP Main Event. It's his best Aussie Millions result since finishing fourth in the 2014 Terminator event.

The first of the big names fell in fifth place, with Danny Tang continuing his good start to 2019, cashing for AU$35,125. With five cashes in the Bahamas, he adds his first here in Melbourne at his first Aussie Millions final table.

Craig McCorkell recorded his first cash in over six months at his fifth Aussie Millions final table. McCorkell has made a habit of cashing here in Melbourne, with a trio of cashes in 2013, 2015 and 2018. It remains to be seen whether he will add to the AU$46,830 he takes home in fourth place today.

As the shortest stack three-handed, Ryan Bownds was the next player to go. He recorded his first Aussie Millions cash earlier this festival in the Mix Max event and now has his second, and his first final table, taking home AU$58,540.

Heads-up it was Bas de Laat who held the chip lead, but within an hour he was down to 11 big blinds. He eventuall lost {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} against the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} of Luis Arrilucea on a {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} board to bust in second place, narrowly missing out on his second Aussie Millions ring. He adds AU$93,665 to his career earnings which now top US$500,000.

Small Double for Kim; Big One for Iyer

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Eui Kim three-bet shoved for the last 10,925 with the {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} and he was called by Thorben V. with the inferior {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}. The board came {Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Kim remained in contention.

The double of Abhinav Iyer was far bigger when he flopped a full house out of the blinds with the {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and his opponent wasn't willing to fold {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for trips nines on {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Both the {3-Diamonds} turn and the {8-Clubs} river were blanks and Iyer doubled.

Gathy Over 100,000

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

A player opened to 1,200 and Michael Gathy three-bet to 4,000. His opponent called and then check-called 3,000 on the {9-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop.

The pair checked the {3-Diamonds} turn and the {q-Hearts} river was checked to the Belgian, who won his first Aussie Millions ring earlier this week. Gathy bet 8,000 and his opponent thought for two minutes before folding.
