Aces Up for Upson

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Donnee Upson was out of position and saw a flop against two opponents.

Upson checked on the flop of {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and a middle position player also checked, while the button bet 1,100. Both players called.

The action again checked to the button on the {4-Hearts} turn and he bet 3,000. Only Upson called this time.

Upson checked a third time on the {5-Hearts} river and called a bet of 3,000 from his heads-up opponent. The player showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} for top pair, but it was no good against the rivered two pair of Upson with {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}.

Wardlaw Rolling in Cash; Doubles Up With Big Slick

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Charles Wardlaw
Charles Wardlaw

Charles Wardlaw, who looks ready to play on an episode of High Stakes Poker with a pile of banded up hundred-dollar bills in front of him, limped from under the gun and the next player to act raised to 700.

The action folded to the big blind, who called. Wardlaw then three-bet to 3,000 and the initial raiser jammed. The big blind folded and Wardlaw called with a smaller stack.

Charles Wardlaw: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Wardlaw had trapped his opponent and maintained the best hand to double up as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{10-Spades} to ship him the pot with a pair of kings.

Looks like he won't need to reach into that heap of cash for re-buy funds just yet.

Riggio Chips Up at Action Table

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

Michael Riggio was on the button in a three-way pot against a middle position player and the small blind.

The small blind led out for 3,000 on the flop of {7-Spades}{q-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and both opponents called. The small blind and middle position player both checked on the {k-Diamonds} turn and Riggio fired a small bet of 3,000. Only the small blind called.

The small blind checked again on the {3-Spades} river and Riggio moved in for around 7,000. The small blind folded and the middle position player commented on the great action at the table.

"Action table over here! I like this," he said.

The next hand, Riggio opened to 400 and called a three-bet to 1,500 from the button. The flop of {9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} checked through and Riggio led out for 1,5000 on the {9-Clubs} turn. His opponent called and both players then checked on the {5-Hearts} river.

Riggio showed {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} for a pair of eights to win back-to-back pots.

The third and final starting flight of the Event #1: $560 NLH opening event at the bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series is scheduled to get underway at noon EST.

Like the first two starting flights, players on Day 1c will begin with a stack of 20,000 chips and blinds of 100/200, with play being eight-handed. Levels will last 30 minutes with 15-minute breaks every three levels. Late registration will remain open until the start of Level 10 and players are allowed unlimited re-entries.

Also like the first two starting flights, Day 1c will stop when 12.5% of the field remains or at the tournament director's discretion. The third and final starting flight will take place at noon on Saturday.

Day 2 will take place on Sunday, April 24 as the remaining players from each starting flight battle it out and the final table will be live-streamed on bestbetLIVE.

Georgia's Brian Dumaplin bagged the chip lead in Day 1a with a stack of 424,000 to lead the 15 players who survived the day. On Day 1b, Florida's Matthew Sundberg bagged a slightly smaller stack, 403,000, to lead the 22 remaining Day 1b players.

The third starting flight will likely be the largest of the three after Day 1a attracted 114 runners and Day 1b had 175 entrants. While the prize pool has yet to be set, $138,720 has already been generated and awaits the players who make Day 2.

Earlier this year at the 2022 bestbet Jacksonville Winter Series Open, Daniel Kusnerak of Newton, North Carolina took down the $580 NLH opening event to earn $63,223.
