Runner-Runner Bad Beat Tilts Negreanu; Poker Star Out of WSOP $250k

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu suffered a nasty beat against David Peters

The 2022 World Series of Poker has been one that Daniel Negreanu would probably like to forget, especially after the way he was sent to the rail on Friday afternoon in Event #50: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em.

On his second bullet — $500,000 invested in the tournament — he entered Day 2 with less than half his starting stack. But he quickly built it back up and appeared on track to make a run. And then he ran into one of his toughest hands in what has been a frustrating summer for the poker legend.

Ivens Extends Gap

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Todd Ivens
Todd Ivens

Action was caught on the {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop in a hand between Todd Ivens and Linus Richter.

Ivens, from under the gun, check-called a bet of 25,000 from Richter, who was in middle position.

Ivens did the same for 90,000 on the {6-Hearts} turn.

On the {7-Spades} river, Ivens bet out 175,000 and sent Richter into the tank. The latter threw his hands up in the air on a few occasions before deciding to return his cards to the dealer.

Overbet Wins it for Romero

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
James Romero
James Romero

Just before the table broke, James Romero was in middle position in a three-way pot against the cutoff and Michael Wang in the big blind on a board of {2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

Wang checked and Romero bet 15,000. The cutoff called and Wang folded. The turn brought the {j-Hearts} and Romero bet a massive 80,000 with less than that in the pot. The opponent laid it down.

Cruising in the $250k, Is 2022 Phil Ivey's Best WSOP Ever?

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

It's not a matter if, but when will Phil Ivey become just the second player ever to win that elusive 11th World Series of Poker gold bracelet. Perhaps, he's just a day away, especially if he continues to dominate Event #50: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em.

Ivey's been stuck on 10 since 2014, tied for second with Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson. He still has his work cut out for him to catch Phil Hellmuth, who holds the record with 16 WSOP titles. But it's clear now that he's as focused now to win bracelets as was in the 2000s.

Ivens Continues Ascent

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Todd Ivens opened to 9,000 from the cutoff and was called by Cliff Hodgman and Linus Richter from the blinds.

Ivens continued for 13,000 on the {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop and both the blinds called.

Ivens fired another 37,000 into the middle on the {2-Diamonds} turn, only Richter called.

The {4-Spades} river checked through and Ivens scooped the pot with his {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

Leonard Wakes Up With Aces

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Edward Leonard
Edward Leonard

Joseph Cheong opened to 8,000 from the lojack and the cutoff three-bet to 24,000. The button then four-bet jammed a stack of 126,000 and the action folded to BetMGM Poker qualifier Edward Leonard from the big blind, who cold-five-bet jammed with the biggest stack at the table. Cheong and the cutoff both quickly folded.

Button: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Edward Leonard: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

It was a good time for Leonard to wake up with aces and his hand held up to eliminate the opponent when the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}.
