The Roller Coaster Ride Continues

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Wesley Shi

"I am asking if he you checked," Laura Church inquired when a massive pot of more than 26,000 had emerged to the 753Q9 river. Wesley Shi confirmed that and Church tabled her 88 for a pair of eights.

Shi had that beat with the K9 for a rivered pair of nines and that left Church flabbergasted.

One hand later, Shi raised the button to 700 and was called by both players in the blinds. They checked down to the KJ7A9 river on which Joel Mitchell checked. Tanupat Punjarojanakul bet 500 and forced two folds.

A player in the hijack raised to 400 and the button called. James Lauer then three-bet to 1,300 in the small blind, and Sharman Olshan called in the big blind, as did the button.

All three players checked the 1087 flop. Lauer then bet 2,300 on the 2 turn, and only Olshan called.

The 10 river was checked down, and Olshan showed 85 for two pair to win the pot.

Joo Gets Her Favorite Hand Again

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Joseph Foote raised to 600 under the gun and Anton Saich called in middle position. Eun Joo then three-bet to 2,000 in the hijack and was called by the big blind, as well as Foote and Saich.

The flop came 5Q8 and Joo bet 6,000. All three opponents quickly folded, and Joo again turned over AK.

"Wow, her favorite hand," a tablemate said.

Heads-up to the 101079 turn, Laura Bunch made it 2,600 to go and her table neighbour Edward Szumski called.

The A on the river slowed down both players and Church showed the KQ for a missed gutshot.

Newly arrived Szumski had beat with the 75 for tens and sevens, having missed a flush draw himself.

Joseph Foote raised to 800 in the cutoff and the button called. Eun Joo, who had only just taken her seat, then three-bet to 2,500 in the big blind, and both opponents called.

Joo checked the A103 flop and Foote bet 3,500. The button called, while Joo then raised to 13,000. Foote and the button quickly folded, and Joo showed AK as she took her first pot.

"She sits down in the big blind and is like, 'What's the starting stack? What's the big blind?" another tablemate joked.

"I'm new to poker. I don't even know what ace-king is. I just think it looks nice," Joo replied.

Pandya Goes Straight Up on the Leaderboard

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

With some 4,300 in the middle to the A978 turn, Ketan Pandya in the big blind bet 2,000. Stewart Marin got up from his chair to take a closer look at the board from the other side of the table to check the suits and then called.

Pandya bet another 5,500 on the 10 river and Marin called.

Pandya tabled his 96 for the bottom end of the straight and Marin mucked the A8 for aces and eights.

Straight for Tedrow Against Palma

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

James Tedrow in the small blind and Nicholas Palma in the cutoff created a pot of 3,500 prior to the 876A turn before they checked it down including the 10 on the river. Tedrow tabled his A9 for the straight and scooped the pot.

In the meanwhile, Sharman Olshan and Maxwell Young have joined the field. Olshan already has a stack of 65,500 for Day 2 from the opening flight but can try to run up an even larger tally to carry forward.

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

David Olshan bet 700 from the button on a flop of 269 and Coleem Chestnut raised to 2,000 in the small blind. Olshan called, and the 5 fell on the turn.

Chestnut then bet 5,000, and Olshan folded.

A few hands later, a player under the gun raised to 500 and Olshan three-bet to 1,500 in the hijack. Chestnut called on the button, as did the under-the-gun player.

Olshan continued for 2,500 on the 4106 flop, and only Chestnut called. Olshan then bet 6,000 on the 5 turn, and Chestnut folded.

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

On the river of a JJ637 board, Laura Church bet 7,000 and that sent Tanupat Punjarojanakul into a brief tank before he folded and mucked the Jx for trips jacks face-up.

"You had it?" he asked but Church said nothing in return.
