Gutierrez Applies Pressure

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Zach Gutierrez
Zach Gutierrez

Zach Gutierrez pumped it up to 1,800 in the small blind over numerous preflop limpers and wound up with Andrew Miller as his only caller, doing so on the button.

The flop fell {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Gutierrez continuation-bet 2,000. Miller called.

The turn came {q-Clubs} and Gutierrez put in another 5,000. Miller went into the tank for a bit, engaging in some discussion with Gutierrez as he came to his decision and let his hand go, which earned Gutierrez the pot.

Sandoval Makes a Straight

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Daniel Sandoval
Daniel Sandoval

A small pile of chips was in the middle from preflop action and three players went to a flop of {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}. The small blind led out for 1,000 and received a call from Daniel Sandoval in early position. Josh Saltz then folded on the button.

Action went heads up to the turn, where the small blind bet another 1,100 and Sandoval called again. The river fell {2-Diamonds} and both players checked to take the hand to showdown.

Sandoval turned over {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} after checking back, showing a straight that could not be bested despite three spades being on board and he took down the pot as a result.

Yohannes Ambaye

The board read {8-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades} with 2,200 in the middle and four players holding cards in front of them. Action checked to the cutoff, who bet 1,600 and received calls from the big blind as well as Yohannes Ambaye in the hijack.

Three then went to the turn {4-Spades} and action checked to the cutoff again. He bet another 3,100 and both players stuck around.

The river fell {4-Clubs} and the big blind checked again, putting action on Ambaye who bet 3,600. Less than five seconds later, both of his opponents folded and he took down the pot.

Saltz Chips Up a Little

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Josh Saltz was in the hijack and called an under-the-gun raise to 400. The cutoff also called, as did Tim West in the big blind to take four-way action postflop.

The dealer fanned a flop of {4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs} and West checked to the original raiser, who continuation-bet 500. Saltz called, with two folds following.

"Heads up," announced the dealer before bringing the turn {7-Diamonds}. The original raiser tapped the felt and Saltz reached for chips, grabbing 1,800 and tossing it onto the felt. His opponent thought for about 20 seconds and then released his hand to earn Saltz the pot.

Ambaye Active Early With a Stack

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

Yohannes Ambaye, pictured in another event

Yohannes Ambaye was one of the players in his seat when play began with his sights set on another strong finish after taking ninth place in the $1,110 MSPT Main Event here at Bally's Black Hawk last month. He is off to a fast start, too, collecting the stack of the player on his immediate right in the opening hands of the afternoon.

He since gave a little back, though, calling an open from the small blind to 600 against Benjamin Williams, who was in the cutoff. The flop ame {4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Ambaye check-raised Williams' continuation-bet of 500, making it 2,200 to go. Williams called and both players checked the turn {8-Hearts}.

The river was {7-Hearts} and Ambaye fired out another 3,400, with Williams confirming the amount before announcing a call. Ambaye showed {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Williams turned over {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} to take down the pot with his two pair, queens and sevens.
