The final 18 players are on their final 15-minute break of the night. Upon returning, levels will increase to 60 minutes in length. The plan for the rest of the evening is to play until whichever comes first between the completion of two more levels and the field reaching 10 players.
An all in and a call were heard as Aaron Meyer had opened from under the gun and seen action fold back to the player in the big blind, who went all in for around 31,000. Meyer called and the cards were tabled.
Aaron Meyer:
Big Blind:
The board ran out safe for Meyer, coming and he earned the knockout. With the pot, he now finds himself closing in on a quarter-million in chips.
There was a three-way, single-raised pot between the player on the button, Wendy Freedman in the small blind, and the player in the big blind. All three players checked through the flop and the turn, bringing a board of .
Freedman checked again on the river and the big blind bet 3,200. The player on the button folded and Freedman thought for a bit. She remarked about how she wanted to call but wasn't sure if she should.
"You seem like a nice guy," she said as she looked at the big blind on her direct left while dropping chips into the middle, having convinced herself to call.
The big blind had a look of being let down as he said, "You're good."
Freedman tabled for the baby flush and her opponent mucked, earning her the pot.
Andrew Peragallo opened to 3,200 from under the gun and was three-bet to 8,500 from Will Givens in middle position. Action folded back to Peragallo and he called.
The flop came and Peragallo checked. Givens made a continuation-bet of 3,000 and Peragallo instantly put out five red, T5,000 chips. Givens quickly folded.
"Nice hand. You're too good!" said Givens as Peragallo collected his newly acquired chips.
Action folded to Evan Shaughnessy in the hijack and he shoved for his last 20,000 or so. Elenna Martinez called from the button.
Evan Shaughnessy:
Elenna Martinez:
Shaughnessy hit a queen on the flop but quickly found himself drawing thin again as the turn gave Martinez Broadway. The river fell and he was eliminated from the tournament. Meanwhile, Martinez has chipped up since and now finds herself steadily above the six figure-mark in chips.
Zach Gutierrez had chipped up via winning a few pots without showdown last level. One such pot saw him three-bet an open from Svetlana Martie where she told him that she felt like she had the best hand before folding face up. Gutierrez told her she made a good fold.
Just recently, he was in a hand with around 18,200 in the pot on a flop of and checked from the small blind to his opponent in middle position. The middle-position player bet 13,000 and Gutierrez check-raised to 35,000. His opponent thought for around three minutes and ultimately a clock was called on him.
After the dealer confirmed that the player had enough time to decide, he was told he had 30 seconds.
"You're either on a draw or a set, bro," the player said immediately after the countdown began. He then sat there thinking about his decision while he was told he had 10 seconds to act and eventually three seconds. His hand was then announced dead while he was in the process of folding and the pot was sent Gutierrez' way
"Your over pair's no good," said Gutierrez as he raked in the pot.
"You always tell players that they make great folds against you," said another player at the table.
"Everybody is playing excellent poker!" Gutierrez responded.
Steve Patch has been seen accumulating chips throughout the entirety of Day 1a here at the Golden Gates Casino Poker Parlour. He just took down another pot where a player in middle position opened to 3,500 and received calls from Evan Shaughnessy on the button, Patch in the small blind, and Elenna Martinez in the big blind.
The flop came and action checked all the way to Shaughnessy. He bet 4,500 and Patch quickly put in a check-raise to 13,000. Martinez and the original raiser got out of the way and Shaughnessy thought for a few seconds before letting his hand go as well.
Patch then won another pot and is now healthily over 150,000 and threatening to eclipse the 200,000-mark.
Rich Monroe opened to 2,500 from under the gun and Will Givens three-bet to 7,000 from middle position. Action folded back to Monroe and he asked if it was seven thousand before making the call.
"It could have been more!" said Givens, smiling as the dealer brought the flop .
"Check," said Monroe. Givens checked behind. The turn came and Monroe fired 11,500 forward.
"I see we both flopped big," Givens said as he called. The river came .
"Check," Monroe quickly said. Givens checked behind to take the hand to showdown.
Monroe tabled for two pair, sevens and sixes.
"Yep! We both flopped big!" Givens said as he tabled , good for eights up and the pot. "You haven't changed one bit, Rich!" Givens said as he reached across to give him a fist bump before stacking his newly-accumulated chips.
Elenna Martinez got her stack in from middle position on a flop of versus Evan Shaughnessy, who was in early position. There was at around 11,000 in the pot prior to the flop action where Martinez got her remaining 23,600 into the middle.
Evan Shaughnessy:
Elenna Martinez:
Martinez had flopped a set and was in front of Shaughnessy's pair of aces. The turn gave Shaughnessy four more outs to broadway but the river came to give Martinez quads and secure the double.
