€25,000 High Roller Championship

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 Concludes

Vanessa Rousso: Leading the final
Vanessa Rousso: Leading the final
A day which saw chip leaders rise and fall and new ones take their place showcased the unique format of High Roller events, as it took over eight 75-minute levels to whittle down the starting 37 to the money spots -- the final eight.

A strange final table took over a level to lose ninth place, Anthony Giuetti, who had himself held the chip lead for much of the day, coming from short stack to leader and then dropping back to finish just shy of the money. Tomorrow, a winner will be decided, who will walk away with €720,000, and it will be one of these players:

Seat 1 -- Andrew Feldman: 202,500
Seat 2 -- Randy Dorfman: 487,500
Seat 3 -- David Steicke: 347,500
Seat 5 -- David Eldar: 385,500
Seat 6 -- William Thorson: 132,000
Seat 7 -- Florian Langmann: 274,500
Seat 8 -- Tony G: 875,000
Seat 9 -- Vanessa Rousso: 1,250,000

...And We're Done: Anthony Giuetti Bubbles in 9th Place

Giuetti - no cash for him
Giuetti - no cash for him
No sooner had they come back from the break, than it was time to go home.

Tony G raised to 37,000 and Anthony Giuetti pushed from the button. An immediate call once it had appropriately folded back around to Tony G, and they were on their backs.

Tony G: {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}
Giuetti: {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}

Board: {5-Spades} {9-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {9-Spades} {2-Hearts}

Thus the day is over at last, and while the unfortunate Giuetti, chip leader for much of the day, is going home with absolutely nothing, our final eight are now all firmly in the money.

Final Table and Bubble in One

Still nine-handed and no one wants to leave empty-handed. Here are the chip standings:

Andrew Feldman - 209,000
Randy Dorfman - 490,000
David Steicke - 349,000
Anthony Giuetti - 265,000
David Eldar - 390,000
William Thorson - 150,000
Florian Langmann - 172,000
Tony G - 570,000
Vanessa Rousso - 1,230,000

Nice Pair

William Thorson made it 30,000 under the gun and found two callers in Vanessa Rousso and small blind Anthony Giuetti.

They saw the {Q-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {2-Spades} flop and checked it round, they saw the {J-Hearts} turn and checked that too, then come the {6-Hearts} river Giuetti checked and Thorson tried it on for 38,000. Rousso called and Giuetti mucked, and Thorson announced, "Ace high." He mucked without showing when Rousso turned over {5-Spades} {6-Spades} for a rivered pair.

Steicke's Stack on the Move

David Steicke, bubble or no bubble, has been all in two hands in a row. The first time it was for around 200,000 from the big blind over a Tony G raise to 28,000. A long think, and he passed.

The second time was from the small blind (necessarily) after button Randy Dorfman made it a similar amount. Again, a great deal of pause, but no call.

"The cards just keep getting better and better," Steicke said with a grin.

Top Pair No Good for Rousso

Vanessa Rousso limped under the gun, and both Andrew Feldman and Florian Langmann looked confused, as though they had never seen such a thing before. Nevertheless, Randy Dorfmann called, as did David Eldar and small blind Langmann. "Friends," mused big blind Tony G, "Four friends." He checked.

The friends saw the {5-Hearts} {9-Spades} {8-Spades} flop which was checked to Rousso. She bet 40,000, and got two callers in the shape of Randy Dorfman and Tony G.

Before the turn was dealt, Rousso asked Dorfman how much he had left -- it was around 220,000. The {6-Diamonds} turn was dealt and Tony G checked; this time Rousso bet an even 100,000. Dorfman tanked up for a long time, before announcing all in. Tony G got out of the way, and the action was back on Rousso.

She took her time, talking apparently to herself. "You have the straight?" she inquired, but there was no reaction from behind Dorfman's sunglasses. She continued her monologue for some minutes, then threw her hands up in the air, then dwelled some more. Finally her speech came to an end. "Pocket sevens!" she declared, "Pocket sevens would make sense. Top pair's no good!" as though she had just had a life-changing revelation. Then, finally, she passed.

Slow for Now

Yes, this is the bubble. Play has become cagey for the first time today, and you've got to remember that some of these stacks are impressively deep still. I didn't see anything get past the flop, although William Thorson did win 25,000 from David Steicke, getting rid of him with a 50,000 bet on the flop of {K-Clubs} {J-Spades} {8-Hearts}.

Big Stack Gets Bigger

Vanessa Rousso made it 34,000 under the gun, and former chip leader Anthony Giuetti called. A flop followed in the traditional manner.

Flop: {5-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts}

Rousso checked and Giuetti bet 58,000. Rousso paused and asked Giuetti how much he had; it was around 470,000. She called.

Turn: {2-Clubs}

Again, Rousso checked, and this time Giuetti bet 108,000. Call.

River: {7-Clubs}

Both players checked, and Rousso flipped over {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} for the wheel. Giuetti mucked, entirely expressionless. He is down to 360,000 or so, while Rousso moves on up past that magical million mark to 1,200,000.
