Controversy in the Back Corner

Isabelle Mercier
Isabelle Mercier
A little controversy erupted at Isabelle Mercier's new table in the back corner. We arrived at the table to see Mercier, explaining to the floor person, her version of events. Unfortunately, we dropped French after about two weeks at university so we have no idea what she was saying. It looked like Mercier's opponent may have opened with a raise that Mercier reraised to 2,100. The confusion appeared to be whether her opponent called that reraise or moved all in for an extra 1,100. The floor ruled it was a call, taking the two players to a flop of {3-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}.

"If you check, I'm betting," Mercier told her opponent. He did check, she bet 1,100 and he called all in.

Mercier: {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Spades} {J-Clubs}

The turn and river were bricks, {3-Spades} and {8-Hearts}, to send Mercier's opponent home empty-handed. Mercier herself is up to about 11,000.

Channeling a Double Up

Short-stacked, WSOP bracelet winner and friend of PokerStars Bill Chen recently doubled up to ~4,600 chips, keeping his EPT title hopes alive.

Chen moved all in from under-the-gun holding {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} and the action folded around the table to the player in the big blind, who studied the situation carefully before committing his chips, tabling a very live {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {3-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {10-Spades} in favor of Chen's Big Slick, and the math wiz lives to see another day.

Pescatori Plunders Opponent

Max "the Italian Pirate" Pescatori has been a quiet, understated presence in today's tournament. He's managed to chip up to 21,000 without too many confrontations. We recently saw him bet 1,500 on a flop of {2-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {4-Clubs}. His opponent, the big blind, check-raised to 4,000 but quickly waved the white flag when Pescatori's response was to move all in. The big blind had fewer chips than Pescatori and clearly did not want to risk them in this spot.

PokerNews Exclusive Video: Luca Pagano

Businessman, philanthropist and Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano took some time out of his very busy schedule to chat with our own Gloria Balding about the role he played in organizing what has turned out to be a very successful tournament here in San Remo, and his new charity, Poker for Life.

Missing and Presumed Busto

Just as the poker players are going to dinner in waves, so are the poker media. Upon returning from my own dinner, I noticed that a different player was sitting in Lee Nelson's (former) seat. He is presumed busto.

Dinner, Wave Three

The third group has been sent to dinner. The remaining two groups are playing Level 6. At the end of this hour, all remaining groups will be back on the same schedule and will start Level 7.

Washout for Flood

Flood - thinking
Flood - thinking
A player raised to 1,100. Action folded around to Liam Flood in the big blind, who considered it for a while, chewing his lip. Eventually, he decided against it, and enigmatically folded the {A-Diamonds} up...

Krause Still Short

Andreas Krause
Andreas Krause
Four-way to a {2-Clubs} {4-Spades} {A-Diamonds} flop in a limp/checked pot, it checked around to Andreas Krause in the cutoff who bet 700. Marcel Luske folded his button, the small blind called and the big blind passed, leaving two players to see the turn.

Turn: {8-Diamonds}

Now cagier, both players checked. Onwards.

River: {A-Hearts}

The small blind bet out 1,300, and Krause passed before the chips even made it on to the felt. Krause, who'd been making a slight recovery, is left with 4,500.

Thank You Sir, Maya Have Another

Last Antonius standing
Last Antonius standing
A player raised to 1,500, and sole remaining Antonius, Maya, in the cutoff was the sole caller.

The raiser checked the {9-Hearts} {A-Spades} {K-Spades} flop and Antonius plonked her remaining 5,000 in the middle. Without a moment's hesitation, her opponent called, and it wasn't looking good for Mrs. Antonius.

Antonius: {4-Spades} {4-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}

But the poker gods move in mysterious ways...

Turn: {2-Spades}
River: {3-Spades}

Antonius made the four-flush and doubled up to around 13,000 to stay in the game.
