Binger Binks

Michael Binger
Michael Binger

We only caught the very tail end of the hand, although our friends at PokerNews.nl with their advanced Dutch language skills found out that Erik van den Berg had raised preflop and then bet out on every street. Michael Binger called him all the way down.

So the board read {9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{a-Hearts} when we got there and the river bet from van den Berg was 11,400. To his immediate left, Binger called. Van den Berg turned over {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for a flopped set - but Binger trumped it with {5-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a runner-runner flush. Ouch.

Van den Berg - 65,000
Binger - 80,000

5-Bet-Fold for ElkY

Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier
Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier

One player had already limped in in late position when the gentleman in the hijack raised to 2,600. In the cutoff, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier reraised to 5,725. The limper folded, but the hijack thought about it briefly before four-betting to 12,300.

Back to ElkY, who paused for a few moments before five-betting to 23,300, over a third of his stack. Back to the hijack, who now went all in to cover ElkY - and ElkY folded in an instant.

The gent who won the hand had an expression of righteousness on his face as he raked in the pot. The Frenchman was left with 40,000.

Romanello Dodges Bullets, Or Does He?

Roberto Romanello
Roberto Romanello

Roberto Romanello has just been involved in big hand that saw him go into the tank for over five minutes.

We joined the hand Romanello being heads up with his opponent on a flop reading {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and there being around 13,000 already in the pot. Romanello checked but his opponent moved all in for what turned out to be 22,850 chips!

This overbet really perplexed Romanello who quickly asked, "why so much?" and when he got no answer he simply asked again, "why so much?"

"No reason" came the reply

This sent Romanello into the tank, when I say tank it is really Romanello's own version of the tank, which basically means he sits back and grills his opponent, trying his hardest to pick up on any clues.

"Will you show if I pass?" questioned the Welshman, "I promise to show one card," said his opponent.

Romanello sat back in his chair again before announcing, "I think I'm beat now."

By now quite a crowd had gathered around the table and after a total of around six minutes, Romanello folded. His opponent asked him to choose a card to show but Romanello demanded that his opponent should choose one. After looking at his holecards, his opponent revealed the {a-Diamonds}

Romanello then offered the player all the money in his left-hand pocket if he could turn over his second card and it not be another ace. His opponent refused, stating he didn't want his money, before mucking his hand. If he is to be believed, Romanello folded a pair of jacks.

Daniel Negreanu Has Been Eliminated

We didn't catch the street by street action but Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu has been eliminated at the hands of Jan Collado. The flop was {3-Diamonds} {a-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} and all the money went into the middle. Collado was holding {a-Spades} {7-Spades} and Negreanu {j-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} for the flush draw. Neither the turn or river were any help to Negreanu and he leaves the event.

Collado cashed in this event last year and followed that up with an even deeper run at Berlin this year.

Dinner Break... Sort Of

As yesterday, the dinner break is an enormously complicated thing, but all you need to know is that half the field are going on a 90 minute break now while the other half only get 15 minutes; after the next level they swap.

So back in 15 minutes for half the players and all the media.

Romanello and Kitai Clash

Roberto Romanello takes down another 10k pot
Roberto Romanello takes down another 10k pot

WSOP Bracelet holder Davidi Kitai has just arrived at Table 3 and was thrust straight into the action by Roberto Romanello who is having a good start to this tournament.

Romanello raised to 900 from early position and Kitai called in the big blind. The board was {j-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {10-Spades} and Kitai led with a bet of 1,025 and Romanello made the three-bet to 3,075. The hooded Kitai looked a little surprised by the raise and took a pause before making the call. The river was the {4-Diamonds} and Kitai checked again and Romanello bet again, this time 6,675. After a very long stare down Kitai made the call. Romanello turned over {j-Clubs} {10-Hearts} and Kitai mucked his hand.

Lodden Relentless

Johnny Lodden
Johnny Lodden

Team PokerStars pro, Johnny Lodden, is in fine form today and is applying constant pressure to his opponents. In a hand that just took place, a short-stacked gentleman opened from middle position to 1,000 and only Lodden, sat in the small blind, made the call.

Flop: {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Lodden strained to see how many chips his opponent had in his stack, 6,025 for those of you interested, and once he had figured it out, made a bet of 9,000. His opponent did not feel like gambling and quickly folded.

Lodden is still up there with the chip leaders, armed with 107,000 chips

Jude Gainsworth

Jude Ainsworth
Jude Ainsworth

Jude Ainsworth was down to just 5,500 last time we passed by his table, but this time we found him in rather better shape. As we approached his table, the Irish Team PokerStars Pro was in the process of doubling up to 22,000, suggesting that he'd already doubled up previously or at least been very busy stealing blinds and the like.

All we caught was that Ainsworth was in the big blind with {k-}{10-}, his opponent in early position held {a-}{q-} and there was a king on the flop.
