I Have Five High!

Nanos Can Beat Five High All Day Long
Nanos Can Beat Five High All Day Long

Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu opened from the cut-off to 220,000 and with Konstantinos Nanos in the Big Blind you can guess what happened - he called.

The flop was {10-Diamonds} {k-Hearts} {a-Clubs} and they both checked. The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and again both players checked. The river was the {j-Diamonds} and for the third time Nanos checked. This time Negreanu made a bet of 325,000 and Nanos very quickly called.

"I have five high!" declared Negreanu.

Nanos took down the pot with second pair {k-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}

Rockets for Negreanu?

Daniel Negreanu attempted to make it a less-than-minimum 195,000, and had to put the extra 5,000 in - clearly the level change had passed him by, and he said that he'd meant to make it 220,000. Both Michael Eiler and Luca Cainelli called in the blinds, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Spades}

It checked around to Negreanu, who bet 375,000. Duly, both his opponents folded.

"Pocket aces," said Negreanu, to the camera. We'll have to wait for the TV show to find out whether he really had the goods though.

Andreas Wiese Eliminated in 6th Place (€105,000)

Andreas Wiese
Andreas Wiese

With 705,000, Andreas Wiese was looking for an open spot to get his short stack in, and a late position window appeared to be open. In they went, but his shove was snap-called in the big blind by Michael Eiler. That wasn't surprising, considering he held {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. Wiese was looking for some help for his {A-Hearts}{5-Spades}...

The board ran out with a little bit of intrigue in the form of a five on the turn, but ultimately the {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} did not help the all-in Wiese and he takes his leave of the EPT Vienna final table.

Eiler's big pair held, which may have come as a surprise to the young German, after two all-in confrontations yesterday both saw his paint pairs lose to single aces. Now back to around 3 million, Eiler remains firmly in the game.

Nanos The Blind Defender

Konstantinos Nanos has proven on this final table that he does not like to give his Big Blind up without a fight. Here is one of those such hands.

Michael Eiler opens for 260,000 and Nanos defends from the Big Blind. The flop is {k-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {4-Hearts} and they both check. The turn is the {6-Hearts}, Nanos checks and Eiler bets 360,000 and Nanos makes the fold.

Wiese Move

First hand back, it folded around to Andreas Wiese in the small blind who shoved for 565,000 total. He got no action, though, and got himself the blinds and antes. He said he had {a-}{k-}.

Negreanu: Peiler On of Pressure

After three hands which were taken with single preflop raises (one each for Nanos, Cainelli and Negreanu), another battle between Daniel Negreanu and Michael Eiler turned into a big stack super pressure move. Yesterday it was Eiler who closed the betting conversation time and again with Negreanu by shoving his whole (big) stack and waiting for the eventual folds. Now Negreanu threebet preflop out of the big blind (560k over Eiler's button raise to 250k) and Eiler flat called.

On the {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop, a very brief think preceded Negreanu's moving all-in, a four-million chip question aimed at Eiler... He threw his hand away and Negreanu will surely be having a fairly confident second break.

Eiler Pleasure

Michael Eiler raised it up to 215,000, and Daniel Negreanu dwelled up in the small blind, looking suspicious, before making the call. Thus they went heads up to the flop.

In the event they actually checked down the whole of the {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades} board. Eiler turned his cards over first, and revealed {a-}{q-}. Negreanu could only boast {a-}{j-}, and the smallish pot went to Eiler.
