Turening the Screw

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Michael Tureniec
Michael Tureniec

An UTG player limped (apparently blind) and Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker made it 600 on the button, Michael Tureniec made it 1,900 from the big blind. The UTG player now looked at his cards and flat-called and Moneymaker came along for the ride.

The flop was {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Tureniec fired out 3,600 which was called by both the other players. An {A-Clubs} on the turn seemed to kill the action as it was checked around but the {7-Spades} river suddenly brought back the aggression. Tureniec checked for a third time and the UTG player bet 5,000, Moneymaker quickly called and Tureniec tanked for about a minute before moving all in for 23,850. UTG folded and Moneymaker sighed, "Nice bet," also mucking his cards.

Where There's a Wil, There's a Way

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Ben Wilinofsky did not have the greatest time at San Remo but he's started a lot better here in Madrid, the board was reading {3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Clubs} and PokerStars Qualifier James Kilarjian was facing an all in from the EPT Berlin champion.

With about 20,000 already in the middle Kilarjian did not look entire keen on making the call and indeed mucked, Wilinofsky moved up to 50,000.

Mercier Beaucoup

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier brought out the old favourite of true poker lovers, the river check-raise. The board had been reading {4-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and Mercier had check-raised his opponent's 5,000 bet on the river to a substantial 14,700. Some tanking from said foe occurred but he was unconvinced by the American who can't seem to go a day or two without crushing a tournament somewhere in the world.

The call came and Mercier turned over {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for the full house, he's up to 42,000.

Thiry Makes Bevand Weep

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Manuel Bevand
Manuel Bevand

EPT Prague finalist Manuel Bevand is busto.

We caught the hand on the turn of the {2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{2-Hearts} board, with Mathieu Thiry checking. Bevand bet 6,000 from the button - an amount that was equal both to the pot, and Bevand's remaining stack. Thiry now check-raised to cover him, Bevand called all in, and it was a brief and clinical affair for the Frenchman.

Bevand: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Thiry: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

River: an irrelevant {j-Hearts}

Online qualifier Thiry is now at around 48,000 and looking very cheerful indeed. Bevand is gone.

Dwandling Stack

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Tom Dwan raised to 400 preflop and was called by Team PokerStars Pro Joe Cada as well as two more players. All four checked the {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flop before Dwan fired out 1,250 on the {4-Clubs} turn. Cada made the call, the UTG+2 player folded but the cut-off also made the call.

The river was the {J-Spades} and Dwan carefully bet out 4,125 - Cada tanked for a couple of minutes, eventually folding but the cut-off decided to make the call. Dwan turned over {7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} obviously no good versus his opponent's {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}
