Vries Rolling

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante
Shander de Vries
Shander de Vries

Shander de Vries just won a substantial pot against Kevin Stani and a third player, the latter of these was all in preflop for about 12,000 while most of de Vries chips were in the middle with Stani covering.

Flop: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{9-Spades}

The remaining 4,000 of De Vries stack went in the middle and Stani shrugged and called.

De Vries: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Stani: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Short Stack: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

The turn was the {K-Hearts} and barring an eight, De Vries would be getting the side pot worth 25,000 which coincidentally is exactly what he started with. The river though changed everything, it was the {K-Spades} and the Dutchman backdoored into a full house meaning he now also picked up the main pot worth another 40,000 to push him up to 65,000.

Stani looked a bit grumpy but he's still got a very solid stack.

Hachem Enters Danger Zone

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante
Joe Hachem
Joe Hachem

Still in the start-of-day lineup which made neighbours of Ben Vinson, Per Linde and Joe Hachem, of the three it is Vinson, who started out making unsuccessful moves and dropping to 13,000, who is ahead on 54,000. Per Linde did just raise Vinson off his prelfop 1,400 though (with a raise to 5,200 with 14k behind) but is still struggling along with 20,500.

Hachem, meanwhile, is down to just 16,000 - we caught this from the turn with the board standing {7-Spades}{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. Hachem had bet 10,000 (around the pot, or just below) and his opponent had ast him in - he passed saying, "So you had aces then?"

He got a shake of the head in response and cajoled, "Come on, don't lie..." but got no show.

Teisseire's World Roc'd

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante
Mayu Roca
Mayu Roca

We got there just in time to see the showdown; it looked like a rather desperate preflop shove by Antonin Teisseire and a very reasonable call by Mayu Roca.

Teisseire: {q-Spades}{6-Spades}
Roca: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Board: {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Teisseire was standing to leave as soon as the king dropped on the flop and was outside the tournament area milliseconds after the river.

Dutchies Don't Like to Pass - to Either Side

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante
Rob Hollink
Rob Hollink

Rob Hollink (big blind) and Noah Boeken (under the gun) saw a {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop; we got there just in time to see Boeken calling a bet from his fellow countryman, bringing the pot size up to around 10,000 by the {2-Clubs} turn. Again, Hollink bet out, this time to the tune of 6,500, and once more Boeken called. They saw a river as well, the {2-Hearts}, and this time they both checked. Hollink revealed {j-}{7-} for flopped two pair; all we managed to see of Boeken's hand before the dealer swept it away was another {j-}.

The elder Dutchman is up to 68,000 after that. Boeken, though he lost the hand, is still ahead of Hollink - he's at around 79,000 now.

Evening Stint Commences

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante

A secret garden filled with barbecue has been the resting place of most of the players this dinner break - they're now back inside to play the last three levels of the day. The early evening saw the action ratchet up yesterday, so we're looking forward to seeing how Day 1b's players attack the higher blind levels.

Dinner Break

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Players have no fewer than three restaurant options here at the Casino Gran Madrid; whatever choice they make they have 75 minutes to indulge.

Schafer Plays the Bord; Loses

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Tough break for short stack Thorsten Schafer right before the dinner break - he had under 11,000 and it was all in vs. 100,000+ stacked James Bord with {A-}{K-} vs. Bord's {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. This must have been a preflop spin, as the board rolled out {7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}...{10-Clubs}...{9-Spades}! Schafer made a straight on the board but Bord rivered the nut one and knocked him out, admitting it was, "Dirty!" or words to that effect. No hard feelings expressed by Schafer who gets to take his time over the buffet now.
