Day 1a Started
Welcome to the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour London Poker Festival Main Event! This stop marks the third on Season 8 of the tour and it's set to be a big one. Many players are in full-tournament swing after another successful World Championship of Online Poker and plenty of players have made the trek to the United Kingdom for this stellar event.
Last year, David Vamplew bested a record-breaking field of 848 players to receive the £900,000 first-place prize. He should surely be back in action this year to defend his title, but he'll have plenty of tough players to fend off. With his victory last year, Vamplew became the highest-earning Scottish player ever by a landslide.
The event is being held at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel and PokerNews is your stop for all of the event's live coverage. Day 1a kicks off at noon for this £5,000+250 buy-in Main Event, so be sure to check back then for all of the updates.

We're experiencing some Internet difficulties here at EPT London. We'll be doing our best to update as often as possible as long as the connection lets us. Apologies in advance if things seem to be coming in a bit slower than normal.
Earlier this morning, Doyle Brunson was spotted buzzing around the lobby of the hotel in his motorized scooter. We had to do a double and triple take to make sure if was surely him behind the wheel tucked under his large cowboy hat with walking stick in tow. Surely it was and that means the "Godfather of Poker," Doyle Brunson himself had made his way to London for his first-ever EPT event. He's in the field today and seated just one table over from good friend Barry Greenstein.
Doyle Brunson is playing his first-ever EPT today and he’s very welcome. He’s sat with World Championship of Online Poker High-Roller Champion Ash Mason and just showed he can still mix it up with these “kids”.
Mason raised to 300 from under the gun and was called by a player in the cutoff before Brunson stamped his seniority with a three-bet to 1,300 from the small blind. Mason passed with a smile, but the third party called to see a flop.
There was no stopping Brunson as he led for 2,000 chips, which was too much for his opponent to call. It would have been best if the American legend of the game tabled three-high here, but second best was , and that’s what he had.

With the board reading , one player fired 1,125 before PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira De Melo raised to 2,800. Her opponent made the call and the dealer placed the out on the river. After her opponent checked, De Melo bet 5,700. The player mulled it over for a few minutes and then made the call. De Melo tabled the for a set of eights to beat her opponent's for a weaker set of threes.
Winning this set-over-set confrontation has bumped De Melo up to 42,400 in chips.
