Trips for Mercier

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jason Mercier bet 1,025 on the {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} board and was called by his opponent to see the {Q-Spades} fall on the river. Another bet from Mercier followed after the final community card and it was worth 2,750. His opponent called, but gave a look of disgust as Mercier turned over the {10-Hearts}{8-Spades} for trip eights.

Duhamel's Pair Better Than Wheeler's

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Action folded to 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champion and Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel in middle position and he raised to 250. His only caller was Jason Wheeler from the big blind and the flop came down {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Wheeler checked and Duhamel bet 300. Wheeler made the call.

The turn card was the {6-Spades} and Wheeler fired 650. Duhamel called to see the {A-Diamonds} fall on the river. Wheeler checked and Duhamel checked.

Wheeler tabled the {4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Duhamel the {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. Duhamel's pair of eights were best and he won the hand.

Negreanu Out-Kicked

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Annette Obrestad was first to act on the {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Spades} flop and checked to the next player. That player fired 450 and then action fell on Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu. He put in a raise to 1,550 and Obrestad got out of the way. The original player made the call.

The turn brought the {K-Spades} and completed some possible draws. The first player checked and then Negreanu checked behind to head to fifth street. That's where the {9-Hearts} landed and again, both players checked.

Negreanu showed down the {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a pair of aces with a jack kicker. His opponent had him pipped with the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and won the pot.

Day 1b: Will the Record Be Broken?

Today is Day 1b of the 2011 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour London Poker Festival Main Event. It's the second and last starting day for this marvelous event and a massive field is expected of around 500 players. In order to break last year's record, the field will need 569 players today. That might be a stretch, but it also may not be. Only time will tell.

Soem of the players we know will be in the field today are Team PokerStars Pros Angel Guillen, Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Joe Hachem, Victor Ramdin, Vanessa Selbst and Vanessa Rousso. They'll be joined by recent World Poker Tour champions Will "The Thrill" Failla and Matt Waxman along with Tristan Wade, Sean Getzwiller, Eddy Sabat and Carlos Mortensen to name a few.

Just like yesterday, the players are slated for eight levels of play, no dinner break and a 15-minute break after every two levels before bagging and tagging for the night. The bar has been set high by Poland's Lukasz Golczyk, who ran his starting stack of 30,000 up to a whopping 211,600 in chips. He amassed over 50,000 more than any other player, but we'll see if someone can catch him today.

Play begins promptly at 12:00 noon here at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel, so be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for all of the coverage.
