Moorman Surrenders to Boatman's Big Raise

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Barney Boatman raised to 1,000 from early position and Chris Moorman made it 2,500 from the seat next to him, it was passed back around to Boatman who flat-called to see a seemingly dry {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Boatman checked and Moorman bet 2,975 but the Hendon Mobster quickly raised to 10,000.

Moorman tanked for two minutes before mucking his hand, claiming he had made a 'hero fold.'

Barny Misclicks, Works Out For Him

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Barny Boatman raised to 2,500 preflop - Chris Moorman came over and whispered, "I think Barny thought that he [meaning the big blind] had raised to 1,000 but he's actually the big blind!"

Martino Chiodo made it 5,625 in late position and Boatman flat-called to see a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Boatman donk-led for 5,000 and Chiodo made it 11,725 but the Brit responded by throwing out a chunk of blue 5k chips and Chiodo quickly folded.

Tournament Tidbits

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Poor Arnaud
Poor Arnaud

- It's worth mentioning that we started Day 1a with just one lady on the felt, and she's still alive and kicking. Fatima Travanca qualified for this event via PokerStars, and as far as we can tell, she's never cashed in a live tournament. She's holding steady with 29,800 chips at the moment.

- We also have one redhead left in our Day 1a crowd. It's Ireland's Dermot Blain, and he's sitting with about 46,500 chips right now. Blain is perhaps best known for his fifth-place finish in the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe, but astute followers will remember his APPT victory in Macau back in 2009. Blain has more than $1 million in career earnings, and he's looking to add an EPT trophy to his mantle this week in Madrid.

- We also have (at least) one gentleman who's surviving his starting day with large doses of pain killers. It's not been that long since Arnaud Mattern had the cast removed from his right ankle, maybe just a couple months since he healed from that tennis injury. He's done it again, unfortunately. Mattern twisted up his other ankle this morning as he tried to catch the shuttle to the casino, and he's suffering through play with his foot resting up on top of a chair and beneath a big bag of ice. At least he's medicated.

- JC Alvarado might be medicating himself right now, too. Alvarado's table was the last one to break, but he was absent from the process. A secondary scan of the room turned up nothing, and we think it's safe to say Alvarado has been eliminated.

- November Niner Eoghan O'Dea is playing very patiently here today, as he tends to do early in tournaments. He's got about 18,000 chips in front of him right now.

- Martins Adeniya is still the chip leader, though his stack has slipped just a bit to about 119,000.

Moorman Moving Through the Gears

Chris Moorman
Chris Moorman

It's the last two levels of the day and Chris Moorman has upped his level of aggression. We just witnessed him squeeze from the big blind after a button open and small blind call, before he three-bet from the small blind after an early position open.

None of the three opponents had the gusto or goods to continue.
