Maracchione with Extra Cheese

Charly Maracchione
Charly Maracchione

Charly Maracchione is soaring after a big hand that saw him eliminate Rudi Van Mol and take a chunk out of David Vamplew.

He opened to 10,000 from under the gun and was called by Van Mol and Vamplew out of the blinds.

All three checked the {6-Spades}{4-Spades}{j-Spades} flop before Vamplew led for 16,000 on the {q-Diamonds} turn. Maracchione called and Van Mol shoved for 22,000 more. Both players called.

The river fell {a-Diamonds} and Vamplew led for 62,000 but had to painfully admit defeat and folded when Maracchione raised to 145,000.

Van Mol opened {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} but lost out to, and was eliminated by Maracchione's {a-Spades}{7-Spades}.

Ladouceur Eliminated By Haxton

From the cutoff seat, Isaac Haxton raised to 11,500. Marc-Andre Ladouceur reraised to 27,000 from the small blind, and Haxton called.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, and Ladouceur bet 21,000. Haxton made the call to see the {J-Hearts} land on the turn. At this point, Ladouceur had 100,500 left in his stack, and Haxton had over 500,000. Ladouceur checked, and Haxton fired all in. Ladouceur made the call with the {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a pair and a flush draw. Haxton also held a pair and a flush draw with the {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, but his pair was better.

The river was the {A-Hearts}, and although Ladouceur made two pair, Haxton had made his flush. Ladouceur was eliminated while Haxton climbed to over 700,000 in chips.

Chidwick Doubles Through Haxton

Stephen Chidwick shoved all in before the flop for around 70,000 and big-stacked Isaac Haxton made the call.

Showdown:
Chidwick: {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds}
Haxton: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}

Tens were good after the dealer flipped {J-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}, although Haxton hit a straight draw and ironically the ten on the turn or the river would have eliminated Chidwick. Fortunately for him, the turn card was {2-Spades} while the river brought {K-Spades} giving Chidwick a double up.

Roumeliotis KO's Panzica

We caught up to find Samuel Panzica all in and at risk before the flop against Alex Roumeliotis. Panzica was all in for his last roughly 150,000.

Roumeliotis: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Panzica: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop was {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{K-Spades} giving Roumeliotis a set of nines but giving Panzica diamond outs to made a flush. Panzica picked up even more outs when the {J-Clubs} hit the turn. The river, however, was the {10-Hearts}, securing Panzica's fate in this tournament.

By scoring this knockout, Roumeliotis was able to build his stack to about 540,000.

Moschitta's Kings Spell Doom for Gohr

Action folded to Luca Moschitta in the cutoff and he raised, which prompted Sebastian Gohr to move all in from the button for 90,000. The blinds got out of the way and Moschitta snap-called.

Showdown
Gohr: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Moschitta: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

Moschitta was well out in front and never looked back as the board ran out {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Gohr quietly collected his things and exited the tournament area.

Out of the Tournament, But in the Money

Change of Plans

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

The tournament director just announced that instead of the planned five levels, the players will only play four today. There will be one more 15-minute break after this level, and we'll call it a day after Level 18.

The Demise of a Poker Icon

Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker was eliminated in 116th place, and while we didn't catch his elimination hand as it happened, Shaun Deeb was kind enough to fill us in on the details surrounding the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event Champ's demise.

According to Deeb, action folded to Moneymaker in the hijack and he moved all in for 42,500. Three folds put action on Alexander Ni in the big blind, and he made the call to put the poker icon at risk.

Showdown
Moneymaker: {K-Spades}{7-Spades}
Ni: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

The {2-}{4-}{6-} flop was no help to Moneymaker, and neither was the {6-}. The {A-} river actually paired Ni, and Moneymaker's EPT Sanremo came to an end with a min-cash.

On The Brink

Guillaume Rivet raised to 10,000 from early position and it folded around to Torsten Brinkmann who moved all in for 67,500. Action went back to Rivet and he called.

Rivet: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Brinkmann: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Rivet took the lead with a pair of aces on the {4-Hearts}{A-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop. The {6-Clubs} hit fourth street and the {a-Hearts} on fifth, securing Brinkmann's elimination from the tournament.

By scoring this knockout Rivet has boosted his stack to 180,000.

Berende Gone

Paul Berende (Day 2)
Paul Berende (Day 2)

Paul Berende moved all in preflop for 36,000 and was called by Carmelo Vasta holding the {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Berende held the {K-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

The board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, which left Berende with nothing but the felt in front of him as he was off to the payout desk.
