WSOP Champ Downed

Pius Heinz when he had chips
Pius Heinz when he had chips

Pius Heinz had a terrible last level yesterday when he saw his stack fall from around 300k to the 43,600 he finished with.

That trend continued today to bust him. He was in the big blind with {a-}{q-} and moved all in after an opponent raised from under the gun with pockets queens. The board ran out a bricky {4-}{4-}{7-}{3-}{5-}.

Fantini Off to a Good Start

With {J-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} on the board and around 42,000 in the pot Tolik Shkoyan bet 28,000 in the big blind and Marco Fantini reraised to 60,000 in middle position.

Erik Olofsson on Fantini’s immediate right tanked for two minutes or so until finally releasing his hand. Shkoyan thought about it long and hard as well before making a tough fold. Fantini scooped the pot making it a good start of the day for the Italian.

Boeree Dares to Dream

With Rupert Elder out of the way, the path is clear for Liv Boeree to make history. She found a nice little double up just now to aid her quest.

Down to around 50,000 she moved all in with {k-}{q-}. Michael Ferrell was sat two seats along and made the call with pocket nines. The Team PokerStars Pro was in love with the {a-}{k-}{q-}{2-}{7-} board.

Deeb Gets Some Off Moneymaker

Shaun Deeb leans back to chat with Pius Heinz on Day 2
Shaun Deeb leans back to chat with Pius Heinz on Day 2

The conversation between the Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker and Shaun Deeb about the TV show “Game of Thrones” ended as soon as the 2003 WSOP champion raised from the button to 6,500 before the flop. Deeb answered in the big blind and the two saw the flop go {9-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}.

Deeb checked and so did Moneymaker and the dealer opened {K-Spades} on the turn. Both players checked again to see the {A-Clubs} come on the river. Deeb tossed in 11,000 and Moneymaker let his hand go flashing {7-Spades}. Deeb was kind enough to show one of his cards as well which was {8-Hearts}.

Marquez Pushes Back Against Timoshenko

Action folded around to Team PokerStars pro Ana Marquez who raised to 6,000 from late position. From right next door, Yevgeniy Timoshenko three-bet to 14,000 and it folded back around to Marquez.

She sat thinking for about a minute before finally dipping into her stack and coming out with a four-bet to 31,400. Timoshenko wasted no time getting rid of his cards and Marquez scooped up the pot without even seeing a flop.

Ajram has Kicker Problems

Ramsey Ajram moved all in from the cutoff for his last 35,000 only to have Ferdinando Lo Cascio move all in over the top from the button. That inspired both blinds to get out of the way and the cards were turned up.

Showdown
Ajram: {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Cascio: {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Ajram's kicker was second best, but there was a decent chance of a chopped pot. The {8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop was nothing special, while the {2-Spades} turn meant Ajram needed a six on the river to win or either a five or deuce to chop. Unfortunately for him, it none of them were in the cards as the dealer put out the {8-Spades}.

Bonomo Sends Tunnariello Home

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Justin Bonomo bet 17,000 from the hijack seat with the board reading {9-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {8-Clubs} and was called by Alexander Zayonts in middle position. Then Mirko Di Tunnariello on Bonomo's right shoved all in for 82,200 and after a minute or two Bonomo made the call. Zayonts folded and the two went for a showdown.

Showdown:
Bonomo: {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}
Tunnariello: {K-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}

Bonomo's queen-kicker gave him the lead and Tunnariello needed one of the remaining tens to hit the board. Unfortunately for the Italian, the turn brought the {3-Diamonds} while the river was the {J-Diamonds} eliminating him from the event. Tunnariello shook his opponent's hand and left the tournament room.

Sarro Saved

Alessandro Sarro found a nice spot to double up and a willing customer to aid him.

He opened from mid position and faced a three-bet from Szabolcs Mayer on the button. Sarro moved all in for 53,100 and Mayer snap called, and then said, "Oh my god" when he saw the hands.

Sarro: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Mayer: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

The board ran {5-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

With that lost Mayer edged towards the danger zone with the bubble fast approaching.

Mayer Falls to Metalidi

After a running pocket nines into pocket queens a few moments prior, we caught up to find a short-stacked Szabolcs Mayer all in and at risk before the flop against the bigger stack of Artem Metalidi.

Metalidi: {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Mayer: {A-Clubs}{2-Spades}

Mayer found his miracle on the flop of {2-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, pairing his deuce and rocketing him into the lead. The turn, however, spelled disaster as the {9-Diamonds} rolled off and paired Metalidi's free card as well. The {8-Hearts} sealed Mayer's fate and sent him home, while Metalidi's stack is now at about 345,000.
