Negreanu Can't Beat Two Pair

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

"Raise!" Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu exclaimed when it folded to him in late position. "Four-hundred bucks!"

Kid Poker flipped forward a red T1,000 chip, and only one player called his raise - Adham Beainy in the big blind.

The flop fell {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}, both players checked, and the turn was the {a-Spades}. Beainy checked again, Negreanu fired out 650, and Beainy check-raised to 1,650. Negreanu quickly called.

The action went check-check after the {6-Clubs} completed the board, and Beainy tabled {8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for two pair.

Negreanu went to muck his hand, but when he did he held it high enough that the dealer turned it face up, showing {a-Hearts}{q-}.

"Really?" Negreanu snorted. "This is stupid."

If you remember, Negreanu had a bit of a row in Barcelona regarding the "first card off the deck" rule, and evidently he still has some beef with the laws of the land.

MacPhee Makes Big Fold

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

When we arrived on the scene the board showed {3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and Kevin MacPhee was deep into the tank. The former EPT Berlin winner was faced with a 23,250-chip shove from Valentino Konakchiev in the small blind and MacPhee was contemplating a call from the button.

MacPhee had Konakchiev covered by just a few thousand chips and calling here would make a huge difference for day. Eventually MacPhee called us over and gave us a peek at his cards before throwing them into the muck. We won't disclose MacPhee's holding but it's safe to say that it was not an easy decision.

After the hand was completed MacPhee explained to us that this hand went five-way to the flop on which Stefan Huber bet 1,600. MacPhee called and this is when the unknown player in the small blind check-raised to 4,625. Huber and the other players folded and MacPhee called. On the turn the small blind bet 8,500 and MacPhee called again.

Like we mentioned before, Konakchiev moved all in on the river and MacPhee ended up folding. The long-time professional starts out today with a little dent in his stack but it could've gone a lot better or worse had he made the call.

Schemion Gives One Up

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Just two days ago Ole Schemion was seated at the secondary feature table with a chance to win the £50,000 Super High Roller event. Today Schemion is seated at exactly the same table but he's not anywhere near cashing or winning money.

Day 1b gets played out today and Schemion is off to a slow start. The German pro was just caught three-betting to 1,625 and his opponent called. The flop brought {5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Schemion's opponent lead into him for 1,700. Schemion called, but folded on the turn when the {10-Diamonds} popped up on the turn and his opponent bet 3,700.

Juanda Can't Beat Ace-High

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
John Juanda
John Juanda

John Juanda has pretty fond memories of London. He won the WSOPE main event here a few years ago as well as finishing second to David Vamplew in EPT season 7.

Juanda opened the button to 450 and was called by Chris Dowling in the small blind, the big blind came along too.

The flop was {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and it was checked to Juanda who bet 750. Dowling called and the big blind folded before the {7-Spades} turn. This time both players checked before they also both checked the {7-Clubs} river.

Dowling flipped {A-Spades}{5-Clubs} - good enough to win this pot.

Where Are They Now: EPT London Season 2 (2005) Champ Mark Teltscher

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
EPT2 London champ Mark Teltscher
EPT2 London champ Mark Teltscher

The EPT London returned in Season 2 and the £4,000 buy-in Main Event saw attendance increase to 236 players, which created a prize pool of £1,033,000. Three men from England made the final table that year, and for the second year in a row an Englishman walked away with the title. Mark Teltscher, born January 16, 1980, didn’t have a tournament score to his name prior to winning the EPT London, but as soon as he claimed victory he had one worth £280,000 on his résumé.

Less than three months later, Teltscher was once again making headlines when he topped a field of 233 players to win the $5,000 event at the Fourth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. Teltscher defeated a final table that included Lee Markholt (5th - $42,505) and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi (4th - $56,660) to walk away with the $374,965 first-place prize and one of poker’s most prestigious titles.

In 2007, Teltscher was a part of a controversy involving PokerStars and the WCOOP Main Event. The username that Teltscher busted in the tournament, but before long a rumor surfaced that he was playing under a different name, “TheV0id,” which was listed under his sister’s name, Natalie Teltscher. “TheV0id” went on to win the tournament, but PokerStars disqualified the player and denied the $1.2-million prize. The following year, Natalie filed a lawsuit against PokerStars on the Isle of Man, but after the online site presented their evidence, Natalie admitted it was not her playing the tournament and subsequently withdrew the claim.

Despite that incident, things didn’t slow down for Teltscher in the years that followed. He finished runner-up to Sander Lyloff in the Season 4 EPT Barcelona for £673,000, and then five months later finished runner-up to Howard Lederer in the 2008 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge for $571,368.

In December of that year, Teltscher was back at the final table at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, ultimately finishing second in a $5,000 event behind Tim Bullard for $158,710. In the past five years, Teltscher has numerous five-figure scores with his most recent being a sixth-place finish in the 2013 WSOP Event #44 $3,000 No Limit Hold’em for $92,186.

Teltscher kicked off his poker career on the EPT and has shown no signs of slowing down in the eight years that followed.

Mizrachi Doubles Through Dempsey

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We caught the action with around 9,500 in the pot and a board reading {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} when James Dempsey bet 3,400 and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi called. After the dealer burned and turned the {7-Diamonds}, Dempsey bet three blue T5,000 chips and Mizrachi snap-called off his remaining 6,275.

Mizrachi: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Dempsey: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Mizrachi had flopped a set to cracked Dempsey's kings, and he was shipped the double after the {3-Spades} blanked on the river.

Mercier Sits, Mercier Wins

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier recently found his seat in the Grand Connaught Rooms, and he quickly jumped into the action, three-betting to 1,400 after Majid Iqbal opened to 500 in early position. The action folded back to Iqbal, and while he was in the tank, Mercier leaned over the table.

"Ya got it?" the EPT champion asked him. "Ya got it?"

Iqbal mumbled an inaudible response, and then called.

The flop fell {a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, Iqbal checked, and Mercier continued for 1,200. Iqbal called.

The turn was the {10-Spades}, Iqbal checked again, and Mercier fired a second bullet worth 4,000. Iqball opted to fold this time, and the American raked in the pot.

"Ya didn't have it?" Mercier asked, grinning.
